Tundra Gear - Aras’ New Investment

November 26th, 2007

Aras invests his money. This is hilarious! Check out the whole site. Get a deal! Tundra Gear — 5% OFF all hats — November 2007 — TGSR

A quote from it: “As they say, ignorance is bliss, and because Aras was never the sharpest tool in the shed, he didn’t understand the overwhelming odds Tundra Gear was up against.” Check out the Survivor Winner’s Winter Hat Collection

Tundra Gear

Tundra Gear is a California based winter hat company, which started out in the garage of our founder’s father. Since those humble beginnings, the ‘little winter hat company that could’ has grown into a world famous hat company. Yeah, we might still be doing business out of our dad’s garage, but whatever, we’re world famous now! Heres our story.

Tundra Gear was founded by Aras Baskauskas, a former collegiate athlete and the winner of CBS’s Survivor: Exile Island. It was while in business school that he came up with the idea that led to the creation of Tundra Gear. Drawing from his experiences with the family business (Baskauskas’s father founded Baltic Rim, one of the first US importers of Russian hats (ushankas)); Aras put a decidedly unique twist on the Russian fur hat.

THE IDEA: The Russian fur hat, standing by itself, is perhaps one of the warmest and most durable winter hats on the planet, but hadn’t found much acceptance in the United States. Surely there had to be a way to put this high quality product on the heads of American’s in cold climates, but how? The answer was to offer the fur hats in a wide variety of colors and accessorize them with officially licensed college, NHL and NFL logo winter hat pins. Who is seeking individuality, solidarity and warm ears? Football fans! Could there be a better winter hat for rabid fans braving the frigid nighttime temperatures of NFL and college stadiums. Tundra Gear found its niche ‘the football-uber-fan’. More… »

Ousted ‘Survivor’ plans future

June 1st, 2006
News-Record.com - Greensboro, North Carolina
By Sue Schultz

HIGH POINT — Dehydration set in quickly with no clean water to drink.

Then there was the lack of food on the remote island off the coast of Panama that sent Austin Carty into near starvation.

And he can’t forget the exile to a smaller deserted island during a 48-hour downpour without so much as a palm branch for shelter.

After 21 days of competing on this season of the CBS hit reality show “Survivor,” Carty returned to his native High Point without the $1 million top prize but with plenty of memories.

“There were players who definitely came out bitter about it,” said Carty, 24, reflecting on his role in the show.

“But I count my 21 days of misery as a blessing.”

He lasted only eight episodes before six of his tribemates voted him off, but as a member of the ultimate jury, Carty’s vote was crucial in helping Aras Baskauskas win the game. More… »

Survivor: Panama - Exile Island (”Survivor: Exile Island” for short) is the twelfth season of Survivor, and takes place in the Pearl Islands, off the coast of Panama. This location was previously used for Survivor: Pearl Islands and Survivor: All-Stars. Filming began on 31 October 2005 and the season premiered on 2 February 2006 on CBS. The season finale was on 14 May 2006 with the votes revealed live from the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York. [1] In a 5-2 vote, Aras Baskauskas defeated Danielle DiLorenzo to take the $1 million prize.

Each week at least one castaway is banished for the time period between the reward challenge and the immunity challenge on Exile Island. The exile is given a single machete, a flint and a bucket of non-sanitized water. The island also contained a hidden immunity idol that could be used at tribal council after the votes have been cast. This gave the person who found the idol a strategic advantage because that person can keep the idol secret until he or she was voted off, which would cause the person with the second largest number of votes to be eliminated. As it developed, Terry found the idol and never needed to use it at a vote, but his possession of it appeared to influence how several other people voted.

The game began by splitting the 16 players into four tribes: young men, older men, young women, and older women. During the 2nd episode the Viveros and Bayoneta tribes were dissolved and in a schoolyard pick’em new tribes were drawn. In a rather interesting coincidence, each of the original four tribes was represented in the final four contestants. More… »

Aras Wins! Danielle in F2, Terry in F3

May 14th, 2006

Here’s the latest! Aras Wins!

Survivor 12 Panama: Finale: As It Aired
title: The Final Showdown
This post was updated as Survivor aired.

Review of the season is over.
Tie breaker is now underway. Fire is life.
Cirie an early lead. Each had a fire go out. Danielle’s fire now going steady.

Danielle Wins! Terry smiles too.

Jeff Probst’s Final Thought
You’ve made it to the final three.

Cirie’s Final Words
Proud to have gotten this far.

First Interview: Danielle
Worked hard to win the fire building tie breaker. Terry talks about his pack with Danielle to go to the final two together. Terry shows them the Immunity Idol. Danielle says that she’s trapped between two macho guys who are rivals.

Reward Challenge
Reward: Power Meal, Cot & Blanket
Type of Challenge: Race Up Climbing Wall.
Terry won Reward. (No one goes to Exile Island)
Aras ahead, first up wall. Terry in second but pulls out the win. Danielle never even got all of her pegs together to try and climb the wall.

Camp. Aras and Danielle talk like they have a pact; Aras says one of us has got to win Immunity. They eat a lot of fish. Terry returns from his meal with his cot. In private Aras says this really puts the pressure on Terry to win Immunity.

Terry reads Tree Mail, it has instruction for the Survivor Memorial at Exile Island. Video memorial of the other Survivors in the order in which they left the game. They burn everyones torhces in the freaky looking skull-shaped shelter on Exile Island.

Final Immunity Challenge
Type of Challenge: Balance on a Series of Floating Platforms.
Danielle won Final Immunity.
Fifteen minutes on each platform, they get smaller each time.
All three move on to the Second Platform.
All three move on to the Third Platform. This is a hard one to balance on. Terry had trouble even starting and is the first one to fall off. Aras goes off shortly afterwards.

Danielle wins the final Immunity! Her first one too. Will she chose Terry to be in the final two with her?

Scheming Is Free
Danielle says that she will take who she thinks has the best chance of beating. So much for that pact with Terry. Terry is calmly making his case with her (Aras not present). Basically he says he’s the one because of Casaya loyalty. Now Aras and Danielle talking. Aras claims to have Cirie’s vote and if Danielle doesn’t take him to the final two then she will lose both their votes.

Tribal Council
Danielle says it’s an honor to win final immunity. Terry admits he had the Immunity Idol. Aras says he though he was easily the choice to be in the final two with Danielle. Danielle says again how conflicted she is. Time to vote.
Danielle selects Aras to be in the Final Two with her. As Terry leaves he says to Danielle “You lied” and then to everyone ‘Thanks for the adventure.’

Jeff Probst’s Final Thought
Congratulations to Danielle and Aras, the power now shifts to the Jury.

Terry’s Final Words
My biggest mistake was not keeping the game in my hands . . . not bad for a 46 year old guy.

Last Day at Camp
Aras says that he has played with integredy. Danielle decided on Aras because of the Casaya connection. She trusted her gut. Food in the morning to help celebrate the final two. Aras slips and falls while drinking from a champagne glass and cuts himself on the back and hand. Danielle kind of freaks out. The doctors/medics show up to stitch Aras. Aras gets all philosophical about his accident. Aras and Danielle are all hugy and nice to each other.

The Jury
Opening Statements
Aras: wow guys, thank you, amazing experience. Worked my butt off in camp and challenges. I made an effort to get to know each of you. I played with integrity.

Danielle: Thank you making this an unbelieveable experience. I tried to play my best.

Questions
Sally: of 6 Casaya who helped the most to get you here?
Danielle names Cirie. Aras also says Cirie.

Bruce: What will responsibility of million dollars do?
Aras: try and make myself a better person.
Danielle: Share experience with young people.

Terry: rate 1 to 10 and why? (anger at Danielle first)
Aras: 9. Tried real hard.
Danielle: 8.5, 9. Cheesburger regret.

Austin: 1 positive move, 1 negative move?
Danielle: keep Bruce, Bob Dog off. Voting Courtney off bad, hard.
Aras: telling Melinda she’s going. Not proud of voting off Shane.

Courtney: (rambles) What did you really learn about yourself?
Aras: My ego has been smashed.
Danielle: I didn’t realize how mentally strong I can be.

Cirie: Why vote for other?
Danielle: Aras is an honorable and great person.
Aras: Danielle helped me after I cut my hand.

Shane: Terry most deserving. You two both are undeserving. Danielle never did anything. Aras, we had an agreement! You lied!! Judge on actions. I can’t decide and I can’t abstain so pick a number between 1 and a million.
Danielle: 10
Aras: 4

Final Statements (They both dealt with what Shane said about them.)
Danielle: wanted to be strong, be myself and make alliances. Feel played with honesty and integridy. Personaly I feel I grew. I think I did outwit, outplay and outlast.

Aras: Tough choice, I played the best way I know. Shane I’m sorry. Thank you guys.

Time to vote. Bruce is shown voting for Danielle and Terry for Aras.
Danielle: 2
Aras: 4

Aras Wins!

Danielle or Cirie Go Home! To Be Continued…

May 12th, 2006

Terry finally lost a reward challenge to Aras tonight and then he lost an Immunity Challenge to Aras.

Danielle aligned herself with Terry as Aras took Cirie on a luxury yacht for the reward. Danielle and Terry were both sent to Exile Island together.

Tribal Council saw Danielle and Terry vote for Aras while Aras and Cirie voted for Danielle. Aras had won immunity and Terry had the Hidden Immunity Idol.

Since it was a tie vote, both Danielle and Cirie had to do the fire building challenge. Last one to burn through a rope and release their flag goes home. The challenege started and then it was…

To Be Continued…

Come back Sunday night to see who will be the last survivor!

Here’s the blow by blow from survivor 12-

Survivor 12 Panama

First Interview: Cirie
At night after last week’s Tribal Council Cirie gets into an argument with Terry, she calls him ‘King Terry’ and ‘Captain America.’ Terry was upset at Cirie for leaving things lying around camp.

Reward Challenge
Reward: Tour of Panama Canal on Luxury Yacht (and decide who gets Exile)
Type of Challenge: Mental - rope maze, assemble puzzle.
Aras won Reward (chose Cirie to share canal tour). Danielle and Terry Exiled.
Very close through 5 numbers found. Cirie and Danielle working to block Terry. However Terry first to start unlocking locks (Aras second). Aras wins and Terry complains about the rules of the game.

Canal Tour (Aras & Cirie): fly to yacht and 5 course meal. Drink champagne to final four. Talk about Terry whining at challenge. They go through the Canal and it looks pretty cool. [Did I read somewhere they’re planning on widening the canal?]

Exile Island (Danielle & Terry): Terry says Aras getting emotional lately. Terry says that at the challange he was just trying to get a ruling on how he screwed up [it sounded like whining to me]. Planning for if Terry wins Immunity - he’ll give Immunity Idol to Danielle and they’ll vote off Aras.

Back at Camp (Aras & Cirie): Cirie tries to start fire with flint, says it’s the first time for her. She’s successful too.

Immunity Challenge
Type of Challenge: 3 Puzzles.
Aras won Immunity (Terry a close second).
Aras led early, Cirie fell behind early. Danielle has trouble finding puzzle pieces. Down to Aras and Terry.

Scheming Is Free
Terry goes to Aras and says that he needs an apolgy from him. Aras apologizes to Terry for saying Terry hates women at the Reward Challenge. Terry accepts and they shake hands.

Danielle worried about a tie, 2 votes each for Cirie and Danielle. They expect a fire building challenge to break the tie. Aras gives Cirie fire making tips.

Tribal Council
First Questioned: Aras.
Vote was a tie! Idol not used.
Tie breaker fire making challenge.
And the winner is . . . to be continued!!
Sunday night is the Big Final on CBS.

Shane is Bamboozled and Goes Home!

May 4th, 2006

May 14 is the Survivor Season Finale!

Final Four is Terry, Cirie, Danielle, and Aras!

Here is the quick version of tonight’s show. More details and photos to come. It’s finally getting juicy!

Survivor 12 Panama

First Interview: Shane
Shane shocked at last week’s Tribal Council. Cirie and Aras have a ’story’ to placate him - ‘no time to let him know.’ Shane seems to be believing it. Shane is happy that Courtney is gone. Terry feels Danielle lied to him so he’s after her now.

Reward Challenge
Reward: Family visit.
Type of Challenge: Replay of Parts of Past Challenges.
Terry won Reward. Danielle Exiled (without even a hug from her mother). Shane and Terry get over-night visits with loved ones at a luxury island. Cirie’s Husband visits camp for a night. Aras hugs his mother and she leaves.
Shane out first. Cirie out. Danielle out. It was down to Aras and Terry and Aras dropped something and had to start over which allowed Terry to win.

Exile Island: Danielle disappointed as she chops a coconut.

Camp:
Cirie gets a kick out of showing her husband (HB?) around camp. He admits that she smells bad. They never were even camping before. They’re putting HB to work so they can save their energy. [Apparently ‘HB’ is short for Hunny Bunny.]

Luxury Escape:
Terry, Shane and family raid the fridge. Terry’s wife says he’s lost weight. Shane tells Boston (his son) about the game so far. Sounds like they’re going to target Danielle. Boston says that Shane is like a kid [no duh!].

(Terry and Shane return to Camp) Terry has to explain his choices after winning Reward. Aras upset at Terry’s callousness regarding the choices he made. Terry feels Aras came unglued a bit.

Immunity Challenge
Type of Challenge: Balance on a Perch in the Water, pour water to raise a flag.
Terry won Immunity (fifth straight time!).
Shane way behind. Aras a close second again.

Scheming Is Free
Shane talks like Danielle is the next one voted off, says he has Cirie’s vote. In private Terry says that he’d like to be in the final two with Shane. Aras in confessional says that he has set up Shane. Shane feels like he could beat anybody [is he Bamboozled?].

Tribal Council
First Questioned: Terry.
Shane was voted off, as he leaves he says “I’m going to have a chocolate ice cream bar in about one minute, one minute!’
Terry has a look of disbelief on his face, he seems more upset than Shane.

Jeff Probst’s Final Thought
The last two Tribal Councils the person voted off has been absolutely shocked. If trust wasn’t an issue before tonight then it should be from here on out.

Shane’s Final Words
Ahh . . I got duped, blind-sided . . . this will be the toughest thing I do in my life . . . He tells Boston that he’s proud of how he played but disapponted about how it turned out.

Curse of the Car!

April 30th, 2006

No one has really mentioned “The Curse Of The Car” this season. Last season a big deal was made when Cindy was offered the choice of keeping the car she won for herself or giving everyone else a car instead. When she kept the car for herself, she was voted off that night.

Now Terry, who is winning everything in sight, has won the car. Does this imply that he will NOT be the final survivor? it sure looks like he can’t lose, but who knows in this game? It’s getting juicier each week now.

It was also strange that the car reward happened this early and that only 3 players got to compete for it. If I recall, the car usually comes with the final 4. I may be wrong. I’m sure you’ll tell me in the forum if I am.

What do you think? Will the Curse Of The Car bite Terry too? Tell us in the forum!

‘Survivor’ loses a Casaya Crazy

CANOE — JAM! Television
By JOHN POWELL

Courtney Marit was stunned by last night’s Tribal Council vote.

There are many ways you can be considered a threat on ‘Survivor’. You can be a challenge beast. You can be a manipulative genius. You can successfully fly under the radar or you can be so darn freaking irritating that nobody would ever throw you a vote at the final Tribal Council.

Unable to shut her yap, Courtney Marit didn’t escape detection on ‘Survivor: Exile Island’. She wasn’t an athletic powerhouse or a scheming mastermind either. She was just annoying. So very, very, very annoying. I mean, you gotta be somewhat of an infuriating personality if the art teacher/Sensei karate master wants to disembowel you with his bare hands. That alone is what made her the perfect player to go up against in the final Tribal Council vote and is what greased the plank for her exit on last night’s episode.

As the final six jockeyed for position and some rethought their loyalties, the core alliance in the Casaya Crazies - Danielle, Aras and Cirie - stuck together and stuck it to both Individual Immunity hog Terry and perhaps one of the most entertaining and equally exasperating players in ‘Survivor’ history: Shane Powers. With their meal ticket taking up residence on Loser Island and the vote at Tribal Council going against their wishes, both have been hung out to dry. More… »

Courtney Stabbed In The Back and Terry Wins The Tahoe!

April 27th, 2006

Survivor Exile IslandWe’re finally getting into some juicy stuff. Things are getting interesting. Bruce is fine and came back to be part of the jury. Cirie seems to be a much better player than I ever gave her credit for. She masterminded the double-cross to get Courtney voted off tonight. Shane was totally surprised by the vote.

Shane’s view was that everyone, Aras, Cirie, and Danielle, were voting for Danielle, and they would be the final 4. One vote Danielle.

Survivor Exile Island

Courtney’s view was that every one is voting for Aras and she, Danielle, Cirie and Terry would be the final 4. One vote Aras.

Terry is voting for Aras with Courtney, Danielle, and Cirie and they will be the final 4. Two votes Aras.

Cirie told Shane, yeah, vote for Danielle. She told Courtney and Danielle she’d vote for Aras, with Terry. She told Aras to vote for Courtney. She thinks that Courtney was the bigger threat to her personally. Oh, then she tells Danielle to vote for Courtney so that Aras, Cirie, Danielle, and Shane will be the final 4. She votes for Courtney.

Survivor Exile Island

Aras votes for Courtney with Cirie. One vote for Danielle. Two votes Courtney. Two votes Aras.

Danielle. It all comes down to Danielle. She rolls it around in her head and pulls the trigger on Courtney. Three votes Courtney. The knife is placed firmly in her back and Courtney goes home, to follow her dreams.

Survivor Exile IslandThe real interesting part of all this is what happens on the jury? Austin and Sally will vote for their old buddy, Terry. Bruce could go either way and has no animosity. Courtney will be angry. Shane will be angry (just because he’s always angry…) Danielle? Cirie hates everyone on her tribe. Aras? Will he be in the final two? Terry? Will he be? Terry has never voted against anyone on the jury (Dan’s not there), so if he IS in the final two, no one will be mad at him and he might win it all. But the big question is, will he make it? Will Aras pick him off after the final 4? Will Danielle continue under the radar? When will everyone realize that Cirie is playing the game better than them all? Maybe the woman afraid of leaves will win it all?

Who knows? What do you think? Tell us in the forum!

Survivor 12 Panama

First Interview: Terry

Shane is nuts - pretends a rock is his Blackberry.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.usReward Challenge
Reward: Bar-B-Q feast on remote island.
Type of Challenge: Groups of 3 tied together must go through an obstacle course.
T1 won Reward. Aras Exiled.
Team 1 - Terry, Danielle, Courtney.
Team 2 - Shane, Cirie, Aras.
T2 never really in it.

But wait, there’s more! T1 competes for a new car!!
Challenge: break 3 tiles with a sling-shot.
Winner: Terry wins the automobile.

Exile Island: Aras says it’s no use looking for the Immunity Idol because Terry has it.

Bar-B-Q: Terry gets his nice SUV and works on Danielle and Courtney to be in the final three with him. Courtney in private says that she is open to it. Terry mentions Cirie as the fourth.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.usMeanwhile back at camp: Shane and Cirie talk game. In confessional Cirie says Shane’s best bet is to go to the final 2 with Courtney. Cirie goes fishing and catches a decent sized fish! Wasn’t she the one afraid of leaves? Shane was chopping coconuts when she returned.

(T1 back at camp) Terry and Danielle try and get a pact where the final 2 in Immunty go to the final 2. Courtney is pissed off when Danielle mentions no one gets a free ride. Cirie says think! Who do you think will make the final 2?? Terry of course.

Immunity Challenge
Type of Challenge: Hold Your Own Weight, on a platform over water.
Terry won Immunity (fourth straight).
The order they went out: Shane, Cirie, Danielle, Aras, Courtney.

Scheming Is Free
Terry is happy that someone from Casaya is going home tonight and Aras is the target. Courtney says that she, Terry, and Danielle will vote for Aras. Shane wants Danielle voted off. Cirie plotting against Courtney and goes to Aras and Danielle (Danielle wavering about her vote). So it looks like Courtney or Aras.

Tribal Council
First Questioned: Terry. Bruce at Tribal Council.
Courtney was voted off with 3 votes. (Aras 2 votes, Danielle 1 vote)

Jeff Probst’s Final Thought
After tonight’s vote, I don’t think there’s a doubt that it’s now an individual game.

Courtney’s Final Words
I’m completely shocked that my sisters who I trusted turned on me . . . I guess I was a threat to be in the Final 2 . . . I’m going to live my dream, that’s what’s important.

Medical Emergency is Bruce - He’s OK, But Out Of The Game!

April 20th, 2006

Here’s the quick story from Survivor12. I’ll have photos and my recap up in the morning.

Survivor 12 Panama
First Interview: Terry
I’m the last La Mina . . .

Bruce: stomach hurts, feels bloated and constipated.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.usReward Challenge
Reward: Luxury Night away from camp and chose who’s Exiled.
Type of Challenge: Questions - how well do you know the others?
Cirie won Reward. Terry Exiled.
Does least for Tribe: Danielle. Terry out.
Who never shuts up: Courtney.
Mistakenly thinks running game: Shane. Bruce out.
Who trust with life: Cirie.
Not trust watch back: Terry.
Biggest poser: Courtney.
Moodiest: Shane. Danielle out.
Easily inimidated: Courtney.
Most annoying: Courtney. Courtney, Shane out.
Never survive on own: Cirie. Aras out.
Cirie wins, choses Aras and Danielle to share Reward with her (Shane is upset). Courtney was hurt that she was the answer to so many questions.

Luxury Reward: helicopter ride to food. Then mud massage time. More food and wine. Aras says that Courtney and Shane are both immature. [Remember you’re only young once but you can be immature forever.]

Camp: Shane thought tight with Aras and Cirie, now not sure. Courtney complains to Shane about RC. Bruce still no bowel movement; in a lot of pain. At night Bruce says it’s an emergency, it’s really bad. Dramatic night time med evac. Somber music plays as Bruce is put on a stretcher and taken away. (The doctor/medic sounds Australian.)

Back from Reward: Shane tells Aras he’s pissed at Danielle going on Reward instead of him. Shane says he’s going to do whatever it takes to win, including turning on them if necessary. Cirie tries to reassure Shane. In private Shane says his rant was a planned thing and that he controls the three of them.

Courtney and Danielle tend to Bruce’s rock garden.

Terry returns with Jeff Probst. Jeff updates them on Bruce: colon and bladder blocked but he’ll be OK. However he is out of the game. No Immunity Challenge or Tribal Council. It is hoped that Bruce will be well enough to be on the Jury at the next Tribal Council.

Immunity Challenge Cancelled!
Tribal Council Cancelled!

And that’s how the episode ends. The ending credits roll along with footage of Bruce doing his karate exercises.

Survivor 12 Panama: Preview Episode 11

Survivor 12 Panama: Preview Episode 11

A survivor has a medical emergency and must leave the island for treatment; a brutally honest Reward Challenge leaves one castaway hurt and another miffed; Terry finds himself without allies; Shane threatens to turn the game.

When a medical emergency sends one Survivor off for treatment, the others are left wondering what will happen next. Will this Survivor be forced to leave the game for good?

Honesty isn’t always the best policy, but in the Reward Challenge it’s the key to winning. Can the Survivors get along afterwards, or are some too bitter to forgive and forget?

As the lone La Mina, Terry is without allies at camp. His only hope is that the bickering amongst the Casayas continues. Will the old Casaya tribe self-destruct, or will they set their emotions aside and stay focused on the game?

Tensions run high when Shane questions the strength of his alliance and threatens to turn the game.

Spoilers mouse over to select white text…
It looks like I was a week early predicting Bruce’s medical emergency, look for him to get an ambulance ride this week. I think Terry will stick around for a while winning Immunity Challenges and with that Immunity Idol of his. Bruce probably will be removed this week, either for medical reasons or he’s an easy target because of his weak medical state.

Another Final Four Rumor:
Danielle and Aras are the final two with Terry finishing third and Cirie in fourth place.

Survivor 12 Panama: Episode 10: Sally Goes As Planned

April 13th, 2006
Survivor 12 Panama

title: Fight For Your Life or Eat

First Interview: Terry
After Navy stories, Terry talks about last week. Away from story telling, the Casaya women are plotting against him. Aras wants to go to Exile Island to have a look around.

Reward Challenge
Reward: Family Videos! with PB&J and Milk.
Type of Challenge: Use aparatus to collect flags, 2 groups of 4. Winners also pick who goes to Exile Island.
Courtney Team won Reward. Aras Exiled.
Courtney Team: Terry, Sally, Bruce.
Danielle Team: Shane, Aras Cirie.

Cirie as a nurse looks at Shane’s private parts and diagnoses chaffing and prescibes a change of clothes - a chaffing skirt.

Exile Island: Aras taking a look for Immunity Idol and then gives up.

Reward: not shown, winners return with luxury items. Terry - U.S. flag, Sally - journal, Bruce - sketch book, Courtney - some sorta toy.

Immunity Challenge
Type of Challenge: Memory Puzzle involving some swimming (duplicate order of pictures that are underwater.
Terry won Immunity (third straight time).
Aras, Sally, and Terry competed; the rest eat hamburgers.

Scheming Is Free
Sally targeted? Terry shows Bruce the Idol. Terry tries to swing Courtney. Cirie thinks Terry would be stupid to give the Idol to Sally. In private Terry says that he will give the Idol to Sally if an old Casaya changes vote.

Tribal Council
First Questioned: Shane.
Sally was voted off.
Votes: 2 for Aras, 6 for Sally.
Terry kept the Immunity Neclace and Idol.

Jeff Probst’s Final Thought
Well it’s clear that it’s six former Casaya members against Terry. He says that he will win all the Immunity Challenges and they say he cannot possibly do it. Whatever happens it should be interesting to watch.

Sally’s Final Words
I’m not disapponted that Terry didn’t give me the Immunity Idol . . . he has a huge uphill battle ahead of him and I’m disappointed that I’m not there with him . . . I learned a lot about myself, I have no regrets.

That’s it for tonight, thanks for visiting my blog.

Austin Voted Off

April 3rd, 2006

Last week, Austin was sure it was him. He had given up and that’s why he told everyone in tribal council that he had faked the weakness in the last immunity challenge. This made everyone else mad. Aras called him a “slime-ball” for lying. They wanted to vote out the strongest and now they had been fooled into voting out Nick.

Terry is talking to everyone he can to turn things around when the tree mail comes. It talks about politics and dealing with nuts. I thought of Shane, but they are talking about coconuts.

Reward Challenge
The challenge will divide everyone into 3 teams of 3 people each “at random”, that is, “per Mark Burnett’s direction”. Each team has a bin on the beach filled with coconuts, a boat tied to a line, a buoy with a net and a flag out in the water.

Each team has to take their 100 coconuts in the their bin down the beach and put them into anyone’s boat.

When all of the team’s coconuts are in a boat, they can take off paddling to go out to get the net and flag off the buoy.

When you get back to the beach with your flag, net, and nuts, use the net to drag the nuts back up the beach and put them into the bins again. First one done wins a trip to a bed and breakfast. The winning team decides who goes to Exile Island.

The teams are 1. Terry, Shane, Austin, 2. Bruce, Aras, Sally, 3. Danielle, Courtney, Cirie.

Everyone decides to gang up on the guys.

The girls are so far behind that they have to finish up putting coconuts into their own boat. They were out of it from the beginning.

Bruce, Aras, and Sally didn’t have as many nuts as the boys did, so they actually got ahead of them and won. Headline: Terry Loses a Challenge!

They get to choose who goes to Exile Island. Oh, Jeff says that they have to pick one from each other team. Aras picks Danielle. They also pick Austin because of his strength and lying.

They go back to camp and wait in the pouring rain to go have breakfast in bed. Turns out that this bed is on the beach and all romantic, except for that pouring rain we talked about. The bed is soaked.

They get into bed anyway and are feed a bunch of good food. So much bacon they can’t finish it. Orange juice, muffins, etc. They’re stuffed and actually forget about the rain and love it after all.

Back at camp. Terry is talking to Shane about who will be in the final 4. Shane says that it will be Shane, Courtney, Cirie, and Aras. Terry makes not of this and will tell Bruce and Danielle about this later.

I have to win something or I will DIE in Panama.”

Austin and Danielle are forming a bond out there in the rain on Exile Island. They kind of like each other and get along great. Danielle says of the rain “This sucks”. Austin says it’s the most miserable that’s ever been in his whole life.

This is where it gets interesting. Terry tells Sally that he has the idol. She had no hope until then and now everything’s changed.

Immunity Challenge
The Immmunity Challenge is a multiple stage obstacle course. All 9 start the 1st stage, but only 6 move on, digging out sand under a fence and then crawling under it.

Aras was first though, but gets stuck and never makes it. Finish order is Sally, Danielle, Courtney, Terry, Shane and Austin. The skinny little girls did best.

The next stage is a brain teaser using clues and colored rocks, then through some net tunnels and running up over a sand hill. The first 3 will move on.

Sally, Austin, and Terry are the 3 moving on. Sally is doing really well at these today.

The 3rd stage is going across a rope bridge and crawling over a sand hill. Terry and Sally win this one.

The last stage is climbing through a wood vertical tunnel, tower structure thing. At the end, you have to dig out some sand and crawl under a pole. This is close all the way , but Terry just beats Sally by a second or two. Closest finish for immunity yet. Headline: Terry Wins a Challenge AGAIN!

The negotiation begins. Terry tells Bruce what Shane said about Bruce being next off and asks him to join their side. He tells Austin that he has the idol. He tells Danielle that he has the idol and will give it to her if she votes with them. Aras and Courtney argue over voting for Sally or for Austin. They get heated and have to be separated.

Tribal Council
So, will Danielle flip for the idol? Will Bruce flip for Terry? Does Terry give the idol to Danielle? Will he give it to Sally or Austin if they are voted off? Did the others finally decide on who to vote for? More intrigue in this one than most.

The final vote was Aras - 3 and Austin 6. No idol turns up, so Austin is going home.

Next Time On Survivor…
Shane has a chaffing problem that he shows everyone in camp. This takes us back to the first Survivor and Richard Hatch.

What did you think of this show? Surprised to see Austin go? Who has the idol now, Danielle or Terry? Tell us in the forum!

Survivor 12 Panama

From several web sites on the web I’ve pieced together what I think may be a consensus Final Four for Survivor Panama. Here they are:

Aras, Danielle, Cirie and Terry.

Terry supposedly wins a number of individual Immunity Challenges in a row to get to the final four and having the Immunity Idol that he found on Exile Island doesn’t hurt either.

Rumor also has it that at the Final Four Tribal Council there is a tie.

If this is the Final Four, then what I think is going on is an Aras-Cirie alliance who are dragging along Danielle as the annoying Survivor to be in the Final Two with either them. No one is going to give Danielle the million dollars over Aras or Cirie. Terry crashes the party by winning all of those Immunity Challenges and talks Danielle into voting with him. Danielle is smart enough to realize that being in the Final Two with Terry is her best chance of being the sole Survivor.

I think Terry wins the million dollars if this is the Final Four and if there is a tie (a lot of ‘ifs’, I know). Aras and Cirie probably vote for Terry with Terry and Danielle voting for either Aras or Cirie. Then I assume that in a tie-breaker Terry cannot be voted off the island so he makes it to the Final Three.

Terry either wins the final Immunity Challenge or Aras or Cirie choose him to be in the Final Two with them thinking that being in La Mina will be held against him. Either way, the Jury will like Terry and admire how he survived and won all those Immunity Challenges and vote to give him

And there you have it folks. I’ve heard this same scenario from a few other places too. What do you think? Does this make sense? Will you keep watching Survivor now that you know who wins? Tells us in the forums.

Audition, sure, but survive ‘Survivor’?

April 1st, 2006

Bangornews.com

One perk of writing this column is that it’s part of my job to live and breathe reality TV.

I actually get paid to watch television, talk about it and write about it.

When someone discovers that I’m “that reality girl,” they almost instantly start telling me who is best suited to be paired up with “The Bachelor” or who should really be the next “American Idol” or “Nashville Star.”

But it’s “Survivor” that really seems to get people going. Almost everyone I talk to says they’d love to audition, but aren’t sure they have what it takes. More… »

Ejected Survivor contestant quotes Steve Jobs

The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)

While watching Survivor tonight, I noticed something interesting at the very end. The contestant who was voted off (don’t worry, I won’t spill the beans in case you haven’t seen it yet) sort of quoted Steve Jobs during his/her exit interview. During his commencement address at Stanford University last year, Steve urged the graduates to “Stay hungry, stay foolish,” and tonight’s unfortunate survivor urged young people trying to make their way in the world to “be hungry, be foolish.” I thought it was kind of cool.

Yes, I realize that this particular quote didn’t originate from Steve, but I believe it’s safe to say that most geeks today associate it with him.

The complete text to Steve Jobs’ speech can he found at Steve Jobs Stanford Speech. I’m a Mac user, so I was struck by this when I saw it on Survivor. It’s very cool. As much as I like Macs, I don’t like Steve Jobs, but this speech really moved me. Go read the speech.

Tribes Merge and Nick is Picked Off

March 31st, 2006

It started with a rainy night and Shane pushing Courtney away. She was cold and alone and mad at Shane.

Bruce cleans out his rock garden each morning. Sally is on Exile Island. Lots of background shots.

La Mina has tree mail. Go look across your back beach for something out of place. There’s a boat with a note and a box of stuff. The note has a map to the other camp and instructions to not look in the crate until they get there. It’s the merge.

They’re excited. Austin is really happy. He wants to find out who’s aligned with who. What do Shane and Bruce think? “We’re outta here!” Austin, Terry and Nick row off into the sunset.

(I lost my recording for a few minutes, so no screen captures of these.)

Casaya is sitting around, eating rice, and they see the boat coming. They gobble up the rice as fast as they can because they don’t want to share any of it.

After they are done eating and talking about how they will vote off the other tribe, one by one, Shane goes down with open arms to welcome the 3 guys. Big hugs all around. Sally shows up on a power boat to join the crowd.Bruce runs down to give Sally a hug. They are all excited to see each other and to know that they merge has arrived.

They open the crate which contains a banner and paints for the new tribe banner, fruit, wine, crackers, all kinds of food. It’s party time. They have a big fun meal and are one big happy family.

They build a new shelter with the La Mina tarp. Shane and Aras watch as Terry works on it. Shane says to him “Let Terry build it, then we’ll vote him off. Terry tries to schmooze Bruce, to get him to flip. Aras and Shane decide to tell Bruce he’s their “leader”, “the senior member of the tribe”. Blah, blah, blah…

Bruce is loving being in the middle. He’s the swing vote and he knows it.

The moment of drama comes while they are building the shelter. Nick is holding the machete and moving it up and down, while Bruce holds a rope to be cut. Saw, saw, saw, and the rope actually cuts, so the machete swings up and hits Bruce in the mouth.

He chips a tooth and has a small cut on his lip. Nick feels terrible. Bruce laughs it off. No big deal. Where was that boat in the night taking someone away in the promo? They built this up so much and it was no big deal. I want to see screaming and burning flesh, followed by a helicopter ride to the hospital. I’m glad Bruce was all right, but there was no drama. Sheesh.

The new tribe name is “GITANOS” which mean “gypsies” in Spanish. Bruce paints the new banner because he’s an art teacher.

The negotiations begin. Austin talks to Aras and Nick about who’s with who. Austin realizes it’s going to be hard to flip anyone. Terry talks to Shane and him and Cirie flipping. Shane mocks him. Terry talks to Cirie about flipping and CIrie is nice, but mocks him. Shane finally tells him that he’s not going to flip. They are all pretty arrogant about being in control. Shane says it’s all about getting to the merge with the numbers and they have the numbers.

Immunity Challenge
It’s no longer tribe immunity, it’s individual immunity. The challenge is to hang on a horizontal pole with your arms and legs wrapped around it for as long as you can. Last person to get off wins immunity.

Cirie is 1st. Aras next, then Bruce and Sally. Shane asks if there is any food to tempt them off. Jeff tells him no and Shane drops next. Danielle and Courtney follow. Austin is there for 30 minutes, then its’ down to Nick and Terry.

Terry lasts 46 minutes to win immunity.

More negotiating. Terry and Bruce talk. Austin and Bruce pray together. Austin knows he’s going home tonight.

Shane calls a big tribe meeting. Pretty arrogant. They all decide on Nick to go home. They all get along. Terry is upset about the way that Shane calls everyone, so they all decide on voting for Shane.

Tribal Council
Austin says that he was trying to appear weaker than he is so that they won’t vote him off. He tells this to everyone. Moron. Shane says that they have the numbers so it’s not a big deal. The big drama is Bruce. Will he flip and tie the vote? They all vote. 4 for Shane and 6 for Nick. Good by, Nick. We hardly knew you.

Next Time On Survivor…
It looks like Terry admits to having the immunity idol and offers it to someone. Since the last promos were bogus, I’m not believing this one either.

What did you think of this show? Sorry to see Nick go? Will the vote be down tribe lines from here on out? Tell us in the forum!
