The pie is cast on ‘Survivor’

November 30th, 2007

James dug his own grave while holding TWO immunity idols! Amanda is the king maker now.

“We’re in the Garden of Eden now. Just don’t eat the apple!” - James

“I don’t want to just eat the apple. I’m ready to make the whole friggin’ pie” - Amanda

The pie is cast on ‘Survivor’ - It Happened Last Night - Zap2it By Daniel Fienberg November 29, 06:22 PM

It seems like years ago that the last new episode of Survivor: China ended with Jeff Probst telling the post-Tribal Council contestants that their work wasn’t done. Remember that? I sure didn’t.

Pre-credit sequence. Thursday’s (Nov. 29) episode picks up immediately where we left off, as Jeff explains that they’ll be competing for a Reward Challenge. James is mostly relieved that Probst didn’t spring a second elimination. The winner will get to spend a night at the Shaolin Temple, where they’ll get a kung-fu demonstration, a vegetarian meal and a peaceful night. The winner will pick two people to join them… but not before CBS sells some products.

True or False: The Chinese government represses independent thought and free expression. The challenge is based around a series of questions about Chinese culture. It’s every bit as hard as last night’s Bonanza City trivial on Kid Nation. “True or false, China is big country of glorious contrasts.” “I’m gonna say ‘True,’ Jeff.” Peih-Gee beats Todd and James for reward, selecting fellow ex-Zhan Hu-er Erik and frequently neglected lunch lady Denise. No More Naked Frolicking

Survivor: China: Week 10 Recap: No More Naked Frolicking « Channel Guide Magazine Posted by Zhillbear

Our Thanksgiving leftovers can finally finish digesting in peace — after waiting two weeks for last episode’s cliffhanger to be resolved, we learn that the “more business” Jeff Probst warned of after Frosti was voted out isn’t an additional elimination vote but is instead a reward challenge that, apparently just for dramatic effect, takes place at the Tribal Council location.

Peih-Gee wins the challenge, which is a quiz on Chinese culture (before you think that her Chinese heritage gave her an advantage, consider that “What is the capital of China?” was one of the questions). She chooses Erik and Denise to accompany her on the reward, which is a trip to the Shaolin Temple, an ancient Buddhist monastery and the home of kung-fu. Having studied karate for eight years, Denise is deeply grateful to Peih-Gee for choosing her for the trip, but despite Peih-Gee’s sales pitch, Denise is more “happy, glowing” grateful than “yes, I’ll form an alliance with you” grateful.

Meanwhile, Todd, Amanda, Courtney and James sit around and reflect how they’re experiencing a preview of how it could be to have the camp to themselves if they’re the final four. Well, James does most of the reflecting, as he exhorts the three not to be tempted to form other alliances and mess up their good plan. To put it in James’ words: “Don’t bite the apple. Leave it alone.” He says if Eve had resisted in the Garden of Eden, she and Adam would still be frolicking naked in heaven, and he shares his heartfelt wish: “I just want us to frolic naked as long as we can.” What a beautiful, profound thought … um … in the right context.  More… »

Blog Cabins: Survivor: China - Episode 11 Recap

Blog Cabins: Insanely Important Film Reviews: Survivor: China - Episode 11 Recap

After a two week break for the viewing audience, the contestants of Survivor resumed their play right where we left them - at Tribal Council, shortly after Frosti was voted off. Though the outlook was bleak, Jeff shocked the gang with news that they were staying not for another vote or anything like that, but to immediately jump into the Reward Challenge (for really no apparent reason).

It was the standard multiple choice quiz style, with the topic at hand being “Potent Potables of China,” or at least that’s what it might be titled if this were Jeopardy! First person to get five right wins the reward. As there was little drama, we’ll fast forward to the end, where we find PG the winner. Immediately, the remaining contestants start their cries of “Shenanigans! No fair! She’s Chinese!” Okay, that’s a lie, but it would have been funny had they done that. More… »

dingoRUE TV Show Recap - Survivor: China Episode 11

November 29th, 2007

dingoRUE TV Show Recaps - Live Blogs - Spoilers - News Posted by Shane on Thursday, November 29, 2007 at 7:55 pm

As much as they wanted to get rid of the person annoying them the most, Peih-Gee, in Survivor: China Episode 9, her immunity win prevented that, so they got rid of Frosti instead, with every move being obviously orchestrated by Todd. We left the show at tribal council, where we were told there was more business to attend to.

They’re going to participate in a reward challenge right at tribal council. The winner will travel to the Shaolin Temple by private jet. Before the challenge even starts, they’re told they’ll need to choose two people to take with them. As twists go, this is rather lame. Fun to watch them sweat, but not worth a two week cliffhanger.

The challenge is multiple choice about China. Todd, James, Peih-Gee, and Denise get the first question right. Everybody got the second question right. Everybody except Denise got the third question right. Everybody except Amanda got the fourth question right, putting Peih-Gee, James, and Todd one away from winning. Peih-Gee wins reward. She picks Erik first, the only logical personal choice, then she chooses Denise, an odd choice, but Denise has made it clear she feels like the outcast of her tribe for a while. May be better off bonding further with Amanda, though. More… »

Survivor China: Episode 10, “Ready to Bite the Apple” Live Thoughts

Survivor China: Episode 10, “Ready to Bite the Apple” Live Thoughts

Because of Thanksgiving, we’ve had to wait two weeks for a new episode of Survivor: China!  On the last episode, Frosti’s showmance with Courtney came to a screeching halt when the tribe decided to vote him out.  Players blatantly showed where they felt they fit in the game when some opted out of the immunity challenge, in favor of food.  Oh Jeff Probst, you little temptress, you!  Tonight, someone suggests making a move to blindside a friend.  The only way that’s exciting is if it’s Todd or James they’re talking about.  James probably has those immunity idols strapped to eat hip so perhaps Todd is tonight’s target.

Oh yeah!  Remember the last episode ended with Jeff saying that the night was over at the end of tribal council?  I totally forgot.  Amazing.  They’re going to have to compete in a reward challenge right now.  I wonder if exhaustion will play a part.

They’ll have to answer trivia questions based on Chinese culture.  Todd, James, PG, and Denise get the first question right.  Everybody gets the next question right about the Chinese zodiac.  Third question - everybody gets it right except Denise.  PG, James, and Todd have 3 and they’re playing to 5.  Amanda got the capital of China wrong!  REALLY???  Jeez… PG, James, or Todd can win on this last question.  PG got the last question right, winning reward.  She takes Erik and Denise with her.  Everybody else stares her down.  Awkward. Survivor China: Episode 10, “Ready to Bite the Apple” Recap

Survivor China: Episode 10, “Ready to Bite the Apple” Recap

When we last left the contestants of Survivor: China, they had just voted Frosti out of the game.  As they prepared to head back to camp, Jeff stopped them and told them that the night wasn’t over yet.  They would have to compete in a reward challenge right then and there.  The prize was a trip to a Shaolin temple where the winner and two friends would enjoy a kung fu demonstration and a meal.  Everyone wanted that trip and was going to have to put on their game face when they least expected it in order to win it!

For their reward challenge, Survivors had to compete in a trivia challenge based on Chinese culture.  Peih-Gee, Todd, and James did well, answering four questions correctly in a row.  The winner would have to be the first to answer five correctly.  Peih-Gee ended up being the only one of the three to get the last question correct and won the reward.  She chose Erik and Denise to go with her.  More… »

‘Survivor’s’ first amputee contestant to speak on ‘Diverse Minds, Bodies and Spirits’ here Dec. 4

Survivor’s’ first amputee contestant to speak on ‘Diverse Minds, Bodies and Spirits’ here Dec. 4

Chad Crittenden, the first amputee to compete on the CBS reality television show “Survivor,” will discuss “Acknowledging Diverse Minds, Bodies and Spirits” in an 8 p.m. lecture Tuesday, Dec. 4, in the auditorium of O’Shaughnessy Educational Center at the University of St. Thomas.

The lecture is free and open to the public; co-sponsors are the University Lectures Committee and STAR (St. Thomas Activities and Recreation).

Crittenden surprised viewers of “Survivor: Vanuatu” in 2005 when he revealed that he only had one leg. At age 33, he discovered a lump on the bottom of his right foot. He was diagnosed with synovial sarcoma, a rare and potentially deadly form of cancer; doctors amputated his leg below the knee. More… »

Tundra Gear - Aras’ New Investment

November 26th, 2007

Aras invests his money. This is hilarious! Check out the whole site. Get a deal! Tundra Gear — 5% OFF all hats — November 2007 — TGSR

A quote from it: “As they say, ignorance is bliss, and because Aras was never the sharpest tool in the shed, he didn’t understand the overwhelming odds Tundra Gear was up against.” Check out the Survivor Winner’s Winter Hat Collection

Tundra Gear

Tundra Gear is a California based winter hat company, which started out in the garage of our founder’s father. Since those humble beginnings, the ‘little winter hat company that could’ has grown into a world famous hat company. Yeah, we might still be doing business out of our dad’s garage, but whatever, we’re world famous now! Heres our story.

Tundra Gear was founded by Aras Baskauskas, a former collegiate athlete and the winner of CBS’s Survivor: Exile Island. It was while in business school that he came up with the idea that led to the creation of Tundra Gear. Drawing from his experiences with the family business (Baskauskas’s father founded Baltic Rim, one of the first US importers of Russian hats (ushankas)); Aras put a decidedly unique twist on the Russian fur hat.

THE IDEA: The Russian fur hat, standing by itself, is perhaps one of the warmest and most durable winter hats on the planet, but hadn’t found much acceptance in the United States. Surely there had to be a way to put this high quality product on the heads of American’s in cold climates, but how? The answer was to offer the fur hats in a wide variety of colors and accessorize them with officially licensed college, NHL and NFL logo winter hat pins. Who is seeking individuality, solidarity and warm ears? Football fans! Could there be a better winter hat for rabid fans braving the frigid nighttime temperatures of NFL and college stadiums. Tundra Gear found its niche ‘the football-uber-fan’. More… »

Survivors name truly says it all

November 22nd, 2007
Survivors name truly says it all - Los Angeles Times - calendarlive.com By Martin Miller, Los Angeles Times Staff Writer

Few network shows have done more, both directly and indirectly, to give every American his or her now requisite 15 minutes of fame — and humiliation — than “Survivor.”

The odd new show that began as a summertime crapshoot for CBS in 2000 was first ignored by critics, then quickly excoriated as a new cultural low. It was hard to believe it would enjoy even a fleeting moment of acclaim.

But the groundbreaking program, whose devilishly simple premise — stranding a group of strangers in a remote location, holding a $1-million prize over their heads and making them eat bugs and stab each other in the back — is now in its 15th season. Laugh if you want: It’s an astounding feat of longevity that highlights the program’s knack for outwitting, outplaying and outlasting the scores of copycat reality competitions it helped spawn.

And as the potentially devastating writer’s strike loomed, TV industry people were taking another look at the show and its steady, under-the-radar success. After all, the five-month writers strike in 1988 is often identified as a turning point for audiences, who began defecting from network fare in favor of then-upstart cable shows. It would be only fitting if “Survivor” led a new reality-show surge this time, if the strike were prolonged and networks had to lean harder than ever on unscripted shows. More… »

Survivor: China Episode 10

www.dingorue.com - Survivor: China Episode 10

Before the season even got started, their first task was to climb and climb and climb up to the temple. Chicken was content to just take his time, which is not entirely surprising. The girls are covered up because their clothing was too short for a temple. After this ceremony, they were divided into tribes.

Todd nominated Aaron to be the leader. I think it’s a misconception that being a leader is bad, though. It’s being bossy that gets you in trouble.

A hungry Zhan Hu had no problem eating worms, but Ashley’s disgusted. An improvement to the worms comes when they get frogs. Leaves and roots from the water were fair game as well. They had no clue whether half this stuff was bad/poisonous, but most of them didn’t care.

First person out of the tribe after Fei Long’s win was Chicken, a well deserved boot. He played the dumb role quite well. Too well.

Todd and Amanda quickly formed an alliance. Then Jean-Robert came up with his brilliant strategy of being lazy. For the so-called leader, Aaron’s not acting much like one. So James put him in his place. More… »

IGN: Survivor: China Interview - Frosti

IGN: Survivor: China Interview - Frosti by Eric Goldman

The Parkour athlete tells us about being the youngest Survivor ever.

November 19, 2007 - Frosti Zernow was a very notable Survivor contestant, and not just because of his name. The college student from Chicago is also a Parkour athlete, which is certainly a first for Survivor. On top of that, at 20 years old, Frosti is the youngest contestant ever on the show. The age requirement for the show has traditionally been 21, making Frosti’s inclusion on Survivor: China an interesting change from the norm.

Frosti’s time playing the game came to an on last week’s episode. In recent weeks he’d seemingly formed bonds with the original Fei-Long members, having been swapped to their tribe from Zhan Hu before the merge. But when intended target Pei-Gee won immunity, Frosti was picked as the next to go both because of original tribe alliances and because he was beginning to look like an increasing threat in challenges. The day after the episode where he was sent to the jury aired I spoke to Frosti to find out what his time was like on the show.

Survivor China Has Been Defrosted

November 15th, 2007

Fosti is low man on the ladder and gets voted off tonight. Next week is Thanksgiving and they have a recap show, so we’ll not find out what the end of tribal council is for two weeks! Tonight ended in a cliff hanger. What will Jeff say next????

Survivor China: Episode 9, “Just Don’t Eat The Apple” Live Thoughts

On tonight’s episode of Survivor, tribal council goes longer than usual when Jeff tells the contestants they have more business to attend to. Not to be outdone by other showmancers like Jaime and Amanda, Courtney starts one of her own with Frosti. It’s an unlikely pairing, isn’t it? Tonight, we’ll find out if the tribe members bring Denise back into a group or leave her on the outside as a swing vote. Will Courtney win immunity again? Not likely! Time for some live thoughts so keep refreshing throughout the hour and post your thoughts, too!

Let’s talk stupid game play, shall we?

Is the tribe idiotic or what for not getting rid of James when they had the chance? Now, James knows he’s a target and will always have those immunity idols close by. That’s without the individual idols he’ll undoubtedly win. I hate when people make stupid moves in the game. That was their chance to take James out and they decided to go with loud mouth Jean Robert instead. Stupid. The former Fei Long members have also alienated Denise who now wants to team up with James who has no choice but to go to PG and Erik. And the numbers start piling up. Stupid. More… »

Voting with cheeseburger breath on Survivor: China

Voting with cheeseburger breath on Survivor: China - It Happened Last Night - Zap2it By Daniel Fienberg

Sure, Jean-Robert was eliminated from Survivor: China last week, but on Thursday (Nov. 15) would love be in the cards for two contestants who combine to weight less than the poker bad boy?

Pre-credit sequence. James recognizes that he had a close escape at Tribal Council the night before and he vows to bring his two Idols to Council from now on. The fish-cooking gravedigger is still chipper enough to wake everybody up with fish and a bastardized version of “Good Morning, Good Morning” from Singin’ in the Rain. While the departure of Jean-Robert has Courtney feeling like it’s Christmas, Denise is the Grinch, feeling out of the loop on the vote as the only one stuck voting for Peih-Gee. Denise has trust issues.

Should we call them “Frostney” or “Courti”? It’s Day 26 and Peih-Gee is wondering why she doesn’t get along with anybody. It may have something to do with the fact that she’s attempting to micromanage James’ morning breakfast preparations, as well as his fire maintenance. Todd’s a little wary of the increasingly annoying Peih-Gee, but he’s more worried that Courtney and Frosti are cuddling around the wok making funny conversations for the simmering fish. He wonders if the increasingly clingy couple could be a volatile voting force. Tree-mail comes with a drum and a cryptic clue, but Peih-Gee is determined to win, whatever beat she has to dance to. Cheeseburger Cheeseburger Frosti

Survivor: China: Week 9 Recap: Cheeseburger Cheeseburger Frosti « Channel Guide Magazine Posted by Zhillbear

The majority of this episode wasn’t all that exciting for me. The high points of the first half:

Now that overbearing Jean-Robert is out of the picture, Peih-Gee senses that the tribe’s need to be irritated is going unfulfilled, so she steps into the void by micromanaging and by picking a fight with James regarding his lack of effort in the reward challenge. James responds in his James-like way — gruff, yet with peculiar word choice: “Every time you bring something up, I will quickly blast you back and make you look quite silly.”

On the reward for winning the challenge, the team of Erik, Frosti, Amanda and Courtney cruise down a river and enjoy the scenery, a good meal and each other’s company. Frosti and Courtney continue their flirting Courtney pets Frosti like a dog; Frosti rubs Courtney’s back as she chants “I love my Frosti”, and Amanda is impressed with Erik’s personality and his ability to make a most excellent bleating noise. Blog Cabins: Insanely Important Film Reviews

The ninth episode of Survivor started much the same way that the prior few seem to have: with Courtney talking about Jean-Robert. The difference this time? She was practically singing in giddy delight at the fact that he was gone. Youd think he was the Wicked Witch. Poor JR.

Of course, this is a happier tribe without him there…until the camera gave a few seconds of devotion to Lunchlady Land, still teeming over the prior vote, where we learn that she was the lone voter for PG. Turns out her fellow former Fei Longers thought she might switch allegiances at the last second and didn’t want to risk keeping her in the loop. I wouldn’t want that mullet mad at me. More… »

Frosti - He won’t be back again someday

AK Survivor Rant - the Rant - my way or the highway. CBS Survivor Blog. -

Tongue boy is no more. He’s back flipped his way into the CBS hotel. I suppose Frosti was a good player - I really had no problems with him in general other than his name. I’m not sure what he saw in the bone rack - but to each his own I suppose. See you later Frosti - I’m sure the hotel lobby has a good stock of corn cob pipes and if you are lucky - maybe you can score some coal.

Speaking of the bone rack, is Courtney really still in this game? Did she do anything in the challenge? Does she ever? I suppose it’s about par for the course at this point. It just really makes me mad to see her do nothing and then enjoy the spoils. I’m also surprised she could actually wear the immunity idol - that thing weighs as much as she does. She ate twice tonight in case you were counting.

PG Pei Wei is really annoying to me. I think I may have mentioned that. Her little rant on James can’t be good for business. Hey professor - you missed a few class prerequisites. They cover that in Survivor kindergarten - don’t shout down the tribe leader in front of everyone.

Scott’s boy Todd is a good player - there I said it. Did you see him tonight - just watching? He listens more than he talks and when others reveal what they are thinking, he just takes it all in. That’s a good play. I like his approach - if he keeps the power from going to his head he’ll be OK. More… »

Survivor: China Episode 9

Survivor: China Episode 9 Posted by Shane

In Survivor: China episode 8, we saw yet another genius plan get flushed down the drain, as the group opted to kick out Jean-Robert instead of the highly dangerous James, doing so in a manner that allowed James to know he better watch his back.

Since he’s got two idols and a great shot at winning immunity, James isn’t particularly concerned, but he’s more likely to use those idols given the chance.

Courtney’s excited to have Jean-Robert gone. Hopefully now she can stop obsessing about him and start obsessing about someone else.

Not surprisingly, Denise is even more upset at her old tribe, as nobody decided to tell her that plans for the last tribal council. Any time someone’s intentionally left out of the loop like this, they become a big risk to flip.

Courtney’s getting closer and closer to Frosti, and she’s already proved her allegiance to her old tribe is not of a great deal of importance to her. They’re getting scared, and they should be. Courtney’s been a very emotional player thus far. More… »
