With Edgardo voted out, there are only eight survivors left and individuals move into high gear to secure places within an alliance that will assure them of making it through to the finals. Dreamz is concerned that he voted Mookie to go. He comes to the realization that they changed their vote last minute because they thought that Mookie might pull out the immunity idol, and that they didn’t tell him. It begins to dawn on him that his position in the group is precarious.

Dreamz is described by Mookie a traitor. Dreamz says that they all got outsmarted last night and Mookie asked why he didn’t vote out Cassandra. Then Mookie comments on the fact that Dreamz voted him out. Alex asks if he has anything left.

Today’s challenge will have the survivors launching balls to team members who will try to catch them with basket type catchers, similar to hai lai catchers. They will randomly draw for teams. Orange, Yao Man, Boo, Mookie, Cassandra. Yao Man is the designated launcher. The green team is made up of Stacey, Dreamz, Earl, Alex. Stacy is the launcher. The field is muddy and the teams slip and slide as they attempt to catch the launched balls. Orange takes a quick 2 point lead but green picks up a point shortly after that. There are no rules and survivors grab at each other to hold opposing team members back. Boo is injured by falling on his knee, and after a few minutes, medical is brought in as he explains that it is a knee injury. As he rises, you can clearly hear his knee move back into place. Boo says that they need to get back to the game and insists on playing. Orange quickly gains another point and Orange leads 4-3. It takes five points to win. Green team takes a point and now it is tied up at 4-4. Next catch wins it. Yao Man launches but it is missed. Stacey launches the last ball and Dreamz catches it, for the win. More… »

MySpace Ventures Into Reality TV — And Politics

April 25th, 2007
Forbes.com Rachel Rosmarin

In an election season when many Americans already feel like voting a few presidential candidates off the island, MySpace and reality show guru Mark Burnett want to cater to that impulse: The News Corp.-owned social network and the man behind Survivor are creating Independent, a political reality show they hope will run on both the Web and broadcast TV.

The show will pit aspiring political candidates against each other in a contest for a $1 million prize, which must be donated to a political cause or used for the winner’s own attempt to run for office.

First, though, the creators of the program have to find a network willing to broadcast it. The no-brainer would be to air the show on fellow News Corp. (nyse: NWS - news - people ) property Fox, but Burnett and MySpace execs say they are shopping the show to different outlets.

“This not like a scripted show where we’d be busy writing our scripts now,” says Roy Bank, head of development and corporate operations for Mark Burnett Productions. “Instead, we have the huge MySpace base to pitch as a selling point to the networks.” More… »

Best Tribal Council In Years - Edgardo and Sanjayah Go Home

April 20th, 2007

Double crossing and lies. Plans and betrayals. Backstabbing and surprises.

Wow. This was the best tribal council in YEARS. The 4 horsemen had it all planned. Dreamz told them that Cassandra and Earl and Yau Man were voting for Alex, so Mookie gave him the idol.

Yau Man got Stacy to vote with them, against Alex. Then Dreamz told them that that Mookie gave Alex the idol, so they decided to vote for Mookie. That would be Dreamz, Stacy, Cassandra, Earl, and Yau Man against Alex.

Then they decided that Alex or Mookie were the expected targets, so they picked Edguardo instead, but they didn’t tell Dreamz, who still thought it was Mookie.

Alex, sure that he was the target, played the immunity idol at Tribal Council. That was the first time that happened in Survivor history. The 3 horsemen looked SO smug. Yua Man almost laughed out loud. Stacy, Cassandra, Earl, and Yau Man voted Edguardo instead. Dreamz voted Mookie. The 3 horsemen voted Cassandra. Edguardo goes home. The idol will be hidden again to be found and played another day.

Wow. This is the old Survivor that we’ve all come to know and love. That was the pivotal Tribal Council, right there. If you missed tonight, you missed the best one.

Survivor Fiji Recap April 19, 2007

www.tvgrapevine.com
by honeySC

The tribal merge brings new conflict and alliance shifts. The Four Horsemen are conflicted over Michelle’s vote outcome. Dreamz defends his vote saying that if she had not spoken at the council meeting stating that she didn’t know him well, he would not have voted her out and she would still have been there now. Mookie says that it is done and that he has to let it be, but he is clearly at odds with the vote.

Jeff presents the tribe with another challenge where they have to answer a group of questions about each other in private. Following the answer to the challenges, they have to respond to the questions as they think the group would respond. For each correct response they get to knock a rung off a three rung ladder. Each survivor has a ladder with their name on it. After all three rungs are crushed, the survivor is out of the challenge and must sit out from that point on. The winner will win a day of luxury on a seventy foot yacht and be able to send one survivor to Exile Island. The questions begin. More… »

wcbstv.com

Reality Series To Become First U.S. Show Shot Entirely In That Country

CBS NEW YORK The 15th season of CBS “Survivor” will be set in China, a spokeswoman for the show confirms to The ShowBuzz.

According to Variety, it marks the first time a U.S. network has filmed an entire series in that country.

China will also be a change of scenery for the show, which has taken place in an island setting the last three seasons. Its currently set in Fiji.

Over the years, “Survivor” has been set in Borneo, Africa, the Australian Outback, Thailand, the Amazon, the South Pacific, Cook Islands, Palau, and three times in the Pearl Islands near Panama.

The season finale of “Survivor: Fiji” airs Sunday, May 13. But, reality fans can look forward to the premiere of “Pirate Master” May 31 on CBS.

The show, from “Survivor” executive producer Mark Burnett, will send 16 contestants to the Caribbean island of Dominica where they will live for 33 days like real life buccaneers on a pirate ship.

Dressed in period costume, the pirates will assume the roles of captain, officers and crew members. Each week, the pirates will search for buried treasure of real gold coins. Echoing “Survivor,” each episode will end with a Pirates Court where one pirate will be set adrift for good.

CBS Announces Pirate Master, A New Reality-Based Series

Starpulse News Blog

Pirate MasterPirate Master, the next epic adventure reality series from Emmy Award-winning producer Mark Burnett, will premiere Thursday, May 31 (8-9 pm, ET/PT) on CBS. Pirate Master will send 16 modern-day pirates on a high seas adventure where they will live as buccaneers and travel around the Caribbean island of Dominica in search of hidden treasure that will total $1 million. Over the course of 33 days, these pirates will live aboard a massive 179 foot, square-rigged barque which carries 12,500 square feet of sail.

Each week, the pirates will embark on extraordinary expeditions where they will decipher clues along the way in search of missing treasure. Gold coins — real money which the pirates may take with them beyond the show — will be awarded after each expedition, but only to some. The gold will play a key role as pirates strike deals with each other or plead for long-term security. In addition to claiming the lion’s share of the week’s riches, one pirate will become the captain of the ship and will assign roles and chores to the remaining crew members, setting the tone for either law and order or betrayal and sabotage, which could lead to mutiny by the crew.

Each episode will conclude on the ship at Pirate’s Court, a lively gathering of public speaking and judgment where one individual will be eliminated and “cut adrift.” In the end, one will be the first to find the largest booty, worth $500,000, and claim the title of “Pirate Master.”

The Merge, Divided Into Teams, and Michelle Is Voted Off

April 13th, 2007

This was a weird week. They merged the tribes. They took away all of the nice stuff that Moto had, so everyone was back to square one. They divided up into teams by the pick of colored rocks to do the immunity challenge. As soon as it was over, the losers went directly to Tribal Council without talking to each other. Michelle or Stacy was going home and Michelle was voted off. Strange things this week and next week looks even more exciting.

Things are starting to get interesting finally!

Yi ousted from “Survivor: Fiji”

The Cincinnati Post By Rick Bird

Michelle Yi, 23, the University of Cincinnati fashion design major, was voted out of “Survivor: Fiji” in Thursday night’s episode.

It came as something of a surprise since the Turpin High School grad had been flying under the radar, well liked, and playing a strong game with solid alliances

Yi was perhaps a victim of circumstances as the two tribes merged in the episode. Then they were randomly divided again for an immunity challenge.

Yi found herself on a losing tribe with none of her allies and left in a 3-2 vote.

Yi always flashed a spunky, upbeat attitude on the show, and left the game that way in her final words.

“Survivor has been an amazing experience,” she said. “I think I’ve just affirmed that I know what kind of person I am, and I know what I’m capable of, and that I’m just as strong as I thought.”

Survivor: Fiji: The merge is on

April 12th, 2007
baltimoresun.com

Oh, Survivor, how I love thee. No show does mind games like this show. (The endless, dragged out results shows for American Idol and Dancing With the Stars aren’t even in the same league.)

Both tribes get treemail telling them to pack up their belongings (but none of the luxury stuff) and head to Exile Island. (It’s worth noting that the Have camp, Moto, immediately talks about cooking up the rice and boiling the water and bringing it with them, while the Have-Nots at Ravu discuss who each tribe member will work on on the other side to try to flip them.) At Exile, they learn that the merge is upon them, and they’re instructed to return to Moto camp. Everyone is so psyched to get there, with the bed and the couch and the food and the shower and everything else … but when they get there, all the accoutrements are gone. Vanished. Vamoosed. Awesome.

They do have fishing gear, some pots, a machete and a flint, so it’s not like they’re going to starve. They’re instructed to pick a new name, paint the flag and “start anew.” They choose “Bula Bula” based on the word for “hello” on Fiji.

Michelle and Stacy work on the flag and let the guys start posturing. Boo goes for the “good little helper” role while some of the men go fishing. Dreamz and Mookie talk to Cassandra and Yau Man about what’s been going on, and immediately, they all talk about targeting Boo and Stacy. Yau Man rightly notes in an interview that you can’t trust anyone. More… »

Exclusive Interview: Lisi Linares, 8th Survivor Voted Off

April 5th, 2007
www.buddytv.com

Lisi Linares became the eighth cast-off on Survivor: Fiji last night, another victim of the seemingly cursed Ravu tribe. Lisi began the season at the comfortable Moto camp but after a tribal shake-up, she found herself the only female member of the new Ravu tribe. Lisis spirit got somewhat broken down near the end, but understandably so: she took many a trip to Exile Island. Earlier today, Lisi stopped by and spoke with us about her time on the show.

Below, you’ll find the transcript of the interview, as well as the full audio.

BuddyTV: How did you find yourself on Survivor? Was it something you had always wanted to do? Were you a fan on the show beforehand?

Lisi: I was very unfamiliar with the show but I just went in it for fun. I wanted to see what happens. I wanted to see how I was going to deal with certain situations. You know, challenge.

One of the challenges, for you especially, was going from the Moto camp to the Ravu camp. That has to be one of the worst transitions you can think of. How bad was it?

It sucked. It sucked really bad. I knew that it was the beginning of the end for me. Because that meant that I would have to readjust and I would have to really deal with unpleasantness like bugs and living on palm fronds and like stuff that was just really out there for me. And I was really happy that I was doing all my like campfire stuff at Moto and I got to sleep on a bed. And I was like, “Yea This is fun. I’m roughing it” And then all of a sudden it’s like, “Oh no”

Well you know there were a couple instances in those last few episodes where you kind of expressed your desire to leave the show. I mean was it just the camp, the transition to the have-not camp that sparked that or was it something else, losing the challenges and what not? More… »

Surprise! Lisi is the Lou Sir

April 4th, 2007

Next week is the merge, according to the programming guides, and one person betrays an alliance.

www.tvgrapevine.com by honeySC

The episode begins with 11 survivors waking up to a new day. Alex and Edgardo think they are in a pretty good place aligned with Lisi on the one hand, and on the other with Mookie and Dreamz. Armed with Lisi’s clues Edgardo, Mookie, and Alex look for the idol with Lisi and Dreamz sleeping close by. Mookie was digging at the right place at the right time and located the immunity idol. He now feels that this will secure his place in the tribe and he and Edgardo high five each other. They decided not to tell Lisi because she is unstable and not to tell Dreamz because he might tell Cassandra in a moment of weakness.

While Mookie was smoothing the area again to hide the idol’s discovery, Lisi wakes up and surmises that Alex and Edgardo have told Mookie. She says that Mookie would have to get up pretty early in the morning to fool her. Later, she takes the shovel and digs herself. Alex helps her dig, laughing in his conversation to the cameras about how silly it is.

Later in the day the tribes have to learn some tribal dancing from the natives for their next challenge. Earl says that he pulled out some Michael Jackson moves and commends Boo for his dance moves. The tribes comment that size, strength, and agility will not count for a lot in this one. Lisi says that she doesn’t take challenges too seriously. She doesn’t want to spend her time worrying about what food they might have to eat. Dreamz thinks she should take it seriously because if they lose the next challenge, she will be the one voted off. Survivor: Fiji - Episode 8 Quick Thoughts

www.buddytv.com -Oscar Dahl, BuddyTV Senior Writer

The merge has to be coming up soon on Survivor: Fiji. Could it be tonight? We shall see. What follows are my quick thoughts while watching the attitude.

I don’t like Lisi’s attitude.

Yau-Man’s celebration when he found the immunity idol was classic. Better yet, it was ingenious to bury a fake immunity idol. Yau-Man is quickly working his way up my list of favorite Survivor players ever.

Michelle falling last week was also great. Can you tell I’m watching the recap?

Edgardo and Alex know everything that Lisi knows regarding the immunity idol. They start digging for the idol in the morning before Dreamz and Lisi wake up.

Holy crap!! Mookie, Alex and Edgardo find the immunity idol! And, neither Dreamz or Lisi wake up. That’s something.

How are these three guys going to use the idol?

They agree to use it together, but it might get complicated. More… »

Survivor KO

blogs.baltimoresun.com Sarah Kickler Kelber is LIVE editor at The Sun, former TV highlights writer and current reality TV fan

Last week on Survivor, Rockys new teammates turned on him after his obnoxiousness became too much to bear. Note: If you want to stick around in this game, dont taunt people when they are feeling sick after eating too much. As if most people needed a reminder.

And this week, theres supposed to be dancing. That could be entertaining

But first, Edgardo and Alex share the information Lisi gave them about where the immunity idol could be found with Mookie and searched for it while Lisi and Dreamz slept. Cold And they find it. Technically, Mookie does and he keeps it in his pocket for the time being. Lisi gets even more bad press when she wakes up to find Mookie smoothing the ground near where the clues said the idol might be, asks if hes digging for the idol, and then interviews about how you have to get up real early in the morning to put something past her. Whoops… More… »
