Vanessa - Ultimate Survivor
Vanessa - Ultimate Survivor 26/11/2006 20:43 - (SA)
Vanessa Marawa, 27, of La Lucia, Durban, is South Africa’s first Ultimate Survivor - and, also, R1m richer, thanks to her perseverance.
Johannesburg - After 29 gruelling days on the Pearl Islands off the coast of Panama, 27-year-old Vanessa Marawa became South Africa’s first Ultimate Survivor on Sunday night.
It was a ladies’ final, with Jacinda and Vanessa in the final two.
In the end, the vote in the final tribal council revealed one last dramatic twist.
Mzi and Brigitte voted according to tribal allegiance for Aguila teammate Vanessa and Gareth and Lezel voted for teammate Jacinda.
In the end, it was Zayn who broke tribal lines to cast his vote for Vanessa.
Survivor host Mark Bayly made the dramatic announcement live on air at the climax of a thrilling and emotional special two-hour finale.
A visibly shocked Vanessa collected that R1 000 000 cheque to become South Africa’s first Survivor millionaire. More… »
2 Tribes Come Together And Squeeze Nate Out
Tonight was the pivotal night. Tonight we saw who has the real power and who is blowing smoke. This show is starting to get VERY interesting.
5 Raro, with Candice and Jonathan, against 4 Aitu. Yul tells Jonathan that he has the hidden immunity idol and asks him to vote with Aitu. Aitu picks Nate to vote out and Jonathan joins them.
If Jonathan did NOT join them, then he would have been the target, Yul would have pulled out the idol and Jonathan would have the second amount of votes and would have gone home.
Nate says in his exit interview: “It hurts to leave this early in the game. Jonathan, you can kiss my ass. You’re a dirty, stanky, whack fruitcake, who sold me out and sold out our tribe when we brought you in, you traiting bastard, so kiss my ass, Jonathan. Other than that, everyone, I love, but that’s how it’s got to be in this world.”
What a class act…
I’m on a Thanksgiving schedule this week, so I’ll do the full update over the weekend. Everyone, have a happy Thanksgiving weekend. Read the comic strip below in the meantime. Enjoy!
Survivor Comic Strip - Cook Islands Episode 10
Maybe it’s just me, but I think there’s a couple good ones in this week’s comic strip. Click it to find out.
Message In A Bottle - Rebecca and Jenny are Gone
228 screenshots in the next post. Click for larger images Interesting twist tonight. Things are getting shaken up! What’s the difference between Sundra and Rebecca? Sundra is still in the game…
Jonathan works hard to earn a place in the tribe. Calls himself the Wandering Jew with no tribe. Candice and Adam conspire to look like they are not as involved as they really are. Parvati and Jenny think that they are as involved as they really are. Candice says “I cut my finger” Adam kisses her finger. Candice says “I cut my lip”…
Aitu is a happy little tribe, working hard, enjoying the underdog role. The challenge involves memorizing flags as letters of the alphabet. Jeff tells Aitu that Brad is the first member of the jury. They get headings on the compass. Two people have to dig up a chest. That chest will have the next heading. They have to dig up all 4 chests. Each chest contains a flag. The first tribe that puts the flags in order to spell “Victory” wins.
Reward challenge
Jonathan starts out by getting the wrong heading. Jenny then complains that he’s not digging right, but doesn’t help. Aitu pulls ahead and never looks back. Adam can’t figure out the directions. They leave before the others are back and have to go back to the mat. Raro isn’t even close. Aitu wins their 3rd in a row since the mutiny. Candice goes to Exile Island AGAIN, where she cries about being alone. Poor princess.
Aitu gets the reward of a feast with the native people. This guy comes out and yells at them first. Then they dress them and put them up on their shoulders to go to the feast. They all make new friends there.
The Immunity Challenge
Raro - Day 23, has Jonathan working hard to catch fish and feed everyone else. He’s wondering if he made a mistake. They get a map for tree mail. THey have to swim out to a float, dive down and unclip a bag containing island names, which they have to match to a map to win. This involves swimming, so Ozzy’s team will win. JEff tells them there is a bottle for the losers with a message that they will open after the vote at Tribal Council.
Ozzy pulls so far ahead, that Yul, the second guy is back at the same time that Jonathan, Raro’s 2nd, is leaving. They stay far ahead and easily win this one, the 4th in a row. Raro is defeated, literally and emotionally. They take their bottle back to camp.

“Every Man for Himself” - Brad is Gone
261 screenshots (I got carried away this week) in the next post. Click for larger images It’s starting to get interesting now. They are starting to think of strategy more and less about just who annoys them.
Jonathan talks to “The 5″ to reinforce how important it is that they all stick together to the end. Yul and Becky, Jonathan and Candice, and…um, oh, yeah, Sundra. Ozzy is the choice for the next guy to kick off. They like his fish, but he’s not one of them. Jonathan tells candice that he trusts her more than anyone. He wants to see her and him as the final two. Candice, however, thinks he’s an idiot.
Reward challenge
Before the challenge happens, Jeff tells them that they have the option now to “mutinty” and join the other tribe if they want. They have 10 seconds to decide. At 5 seconds, Candice steps out. At 1 second, Jonathan joins her. This means that Aitu has only 4 people and Raro has 8 people. Aitu is bummed. The challenge is to put 2 people in a barrel, roll them down a hill, across poles, grab floats along the way, put the floats on the barrel, then float the barrel, with the 2 people still inside, across a lagoon, grab some flags, then put the flags on a pole on the other side, then dig up a hatchet to cut the rope to raise the flag. Where do they get these challenges?
Aitu moves ahead a bit for most of it, but when they hit the water, Ozzy grabs the rope and pulls the barrel across the water. He swims down to grab the flags and continues to pull the barrel using the rope as a guide. Raro, because they have 2 big, strong guys, don’t need the rope to get there. They swim straight out, well… at an angle, well… the current takes them downstream and they have no chance. Raro is last seen floating out to sea.
Ozzy thinks hard and decides that Candice, the traitor, should go to Exile Island. The reward itself was food, robes, and getting to see photos and letters from home. This was the most emotional reward for a while. Sundra cries on the beach. Everyone cries reading their letters. They were really feeling defeated when Candice and Jonathan left them. It was 4 to 8 and Aitu won! It was a great feeling and really seemed to bring them together as a tribe. Candice went to Exile Island. She just jumped tribes, so 4 people are mad at her and now has no time to bond with her new tribe.
Raro - Day 20, has Jonathan sucking up to everyone on his new tribe. “I just took a chance here I am!” No one is happy that he’s there. He tells Adam that he came with Candice to hook up with him. He tells us that he’s “in the danger zone”. His mistake might have been to trust Candice too much. Raro’s thinking that they have their next person to vote off. Nate says “You really think that we all have your back when we just saw you sell out your other tribe? Are you dumb?”
Day 20 - The Immunity Challenge
Glass bottomed boats. They have to take theirs boats and line them up with a target based on cross hairs in the glass bottomed boat. Then they drop a cannon ball down a pipe where it hits a target, releasing a float. First to get all of them wins. Jeff has his cowboy hat back for this one. Get all the floats back to shore and use them to solve a word puzzle. First puzzle solved wins. Raro moves ahead, the Yul discovers that if you forget about the target cross hairs and just look down the pipe where you drop the balls, it works great. Jeff notes that Raro wastes a ball at one point and Jonathan responds with “Oh, please, Jeff.” Jeff then says “Jonathan getting frustrated by me”. Aitu pulls ahead and wins.

Land dispute resolved over Survivor shooting
$10 million? Yeah. I don’t think so. Nice try though.
Land dispute resolved over Survivor shooting By fijivillage
The recent land dispute over the shooting of the Survivor series in Labasa between the mataqali Walana and the NLTB has been resolved.
According to NLTBs Public Relations officer Nimilote Naivalumaira, the Walana landowners are just one of the seven mataqalis and they have already received $17,000 in soil royalties. They are expected to get a further $31,800 in compensation for the five months of production of Survivor by the company, Crab Bay Limited.
Naivalumaira said the Walana mataqali is the only mataqali demanding the 10 million dollars and that the shooting of Survivor series has been underway since August 4th this year in Vunivutu, Labasa.
Tui Macuata, Ratu Aisea Katonivere said the village and areas around the shot set are grateful for the cash flow brought about by the series, such as improved houses and tarsealed roads.

To his credit, Kennedy has had his share of trouble with the Deadman in recent months. The Fiji Sun By SAMANTHA RINA
Landowners want $10 million to allow filming of the renowned television series, Survivor. And if they don’t receive the money, they say they will halt production. Members of the Mataqali Walana in Macuata have demanded that the Native Land Trust Board make a $10 million payment if it wants the series to continue filming on their land.”We are seeking legal advice on the matter and we are also checking ownership of other areas involved as the filmmaking of this series involves seven islands,” said mataqali member and spokesman Asaeli Tuicakau. Flicka’s Flame Goes Out
99 screenshots in the next post. Click for larger images
Nate enjoys his time as part of the Aitu tribe. They have talk nice and hang out. Flicka spills her guts about not knowing who will be voted out next time. Yul, Candice and Becky talk about the options; Jonathon, Flicka, or Ozzy…
Reward challenge
They get to choose 2 items from a catalog to get if they win the reward challenge. Big choice here - bread or potatos?? What’s it gonna be? We need to vote! Brad wants potatos because they last longer. They decide on bread.
The challenge is that 3 people swim out to a platform with a bat, climb up, jump off, breaking a clay box holding a key. The key falls into the water and they dive to retrieve it. When all 6 keys are retreived, they unlock 6 locks and the puzzle people then put together a puzzle. Each of the 3 must swim once and get one key at a time. Oh, then it starts to rain.
