SURVIVOR 14 - Open Casting Calls

June 2nd, 2006

From the CBS.com home page. You asked for it, you got it! Thanks to Carla Sue for the tip.

We’ll email you a link to the Survivor 14 application by filling out our SURVIVOR APPLICATION form.

An Open Casting Call is an event your local station holds for SURVIVOR. When you attend an Open Call, you will fill out an application and be put on camera there. You do not need to bring your own tape, and you do not need a copy of your passport. Open Calls alleviate the headaches and expenses of making your own tape, transferring it to VHS format and mailing it.

These events are also lots of fun. Meet fellow SURVIVOR fans, make some new friends, enjoy. Your local station will send the tape directly to the casting department, where it will be watched by the casting team and the same as it would be if you sent in an individual tape yourself.

Good luck, and have fun!

‘Survivor’ Winner Lied to Get Time Off

‘Survivor’ Winner Lied to Get Time Off
The Associated Press

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A former winner on “Survivor” lied to get time off from his job as a state highway worker to join a promotional tour for the reality TV show in Europe last year, an investigation found.

Chris Daugherty, 35, who won the ninth season of the CBS show, filed a false claim that he needed time off because he was under stress and suffering from depression, an Ohio Department of Transportation hearing officer ruled Thursday.

He landed the $1 million prize in 2004 for “Survivor: Vanuatu _ Islands of Fire,” but returned to his $34,000 a year job with ODOT, working on roads in central Ohio.

But Daugherty could face penalties ranging from reprimand to dismissal, ODOT spokesman Andrew Gall said.

“Daugherty’s claim that he had an illness which just happened to coincide with his ‘Survivor’ tour is simply not credible,” wrote ODOT chief investigator Les Reel. More… »

Ousted ‘Survivor’ plans future

News-Record.com - Greensboro, North Carolina
By Sue Schultz

HIGH POINT — Dehydration set in quickly with no clean water to drink.

Then there was the lack of food on the remote island off the coast of Panama that sent Austin Carty into near starvation.

And he can’t forget the exile to a smaller deserted island during a 48-hour downpour without so much as a palm branch for shelter.

After 21 days of competing on this season of the CBS hit reality show “Survivor,” Carty returned to his native High Point without the $1 million top prize but with plenty of memories.

“There were players who definitely came out bitter about it,” said Carty, 24, reflecting on his role in the show.

“But I count my 21 days of misery as a blessing.”

He lasted only eight episodes before six of his tribemates voted him off, but as a member of the ultimate jury, Carty’s vote was crucial in helping Aras Baskauskas win the game. More… »
