Early Show Highlights: Cast-Off Stephenie LaGrossa

April 30th, 2005

Harry Smith: Stephenie LaGrossa, good morning.

Steph: Good morning.

Harry Smith: You talk about luck of the draw, in retrospect. You end up on this tribe with all of these young…remember when the show started, it was young people on one tribe, old on the other.

Steph: Oh we thought we had it. "We’ve got this in the bag".

Harry Smith: You could not win a challenge.

Steph: Not one.

Harry Smith: Let’s go all the way back to the very beginning of the show as you’re all together in one group, you had started to form some relationships and have some conversations. You had gotten together with Tom a little bit. Do you feel like it would have been a different outcome if you had not been stuck with the tribe that you had been stuck with?

Steph: I do, absolutely. I think I had a real good shot if I was on Koror, at winning the entire game. But because I was on a tribe that lost every single time… More… »

Ulong is All Gong. Bye, Steph!

April 28th, 2005

It was predictable and totally unexpected. Steph got voted off tonight.

It all started out with everyone talking about the tribal council. They all sweet talked Steph and made her feel welcome and warm and fuzzy. Steph tried to get the 4 girls together against the guys, which made total sense. The remaining guys will crush these girls now, without Steph. They all talked about it, but no one made any deals.

First challenge was an auction. They all got $500 in 20s to bid on items. Of course, the items were hidden. The first was a ice cream sundae. Then a cheese burger and fries. The last food item was a full on spaghetti dinner that Ian won. Wait, then he also got an ice cold beer to drink with it. The final item to bid on was letters from home. Everyone cried. blah, blah, blah…

Talk around the camp turned to who should be voted off. Tom makes a speech to everyone about how well he’s supported the tribe and they should support him. That was worthless. No one cares, Tom. The girls talk to Caryn about doing the 4 girl thing and she immediately goes back to tell Tom that the girls in his alliance are talking about turning on him. Tom tells Ian. Ian tells the girls. The girls are mad at Caryn. What are these people thinking? Where are the lies and backstabbing from last season? Don’t these guys know how to play the game? Whatever…

The immunity challenge was throwing coconuts at a table with tiles set into it. The tiles are supported around the edges, so if you hit the tile, it breaks. There are 7 people and 7 colored tiles. If you break your own tile or if you break someone else’s tile, it counts for who ever’s tile it was. Ian goes 4 for 5 for his own tiles. Others do well or average or poorly. Steph was the last to get on the board and didn’t do very well at all. Tom misses his last shot and breaks Ian’s, giving Ian immunity, again, like he really needs it. (I still think Ian will win it all.)

Now, will the girl’s alliance come together? Can Steph sell her way into that deal? Will everyone get mad at Caryn for ratting them out? Will the tribe get smart and take out Tom while they have the chance? Oohhhhh! Suspense! What will happen? We’ll find out after this break.

Tribal council goes pretty normal. No big surprises. No one quit on their own. No one cried. No one said anything mean. It still looked like it was a toss up. The Producers did a good job editting this one to get as much suspense as they could out of it. The bottom line was that everyone stuck to the plan and everyone voted for Steph. Where was the video of them getting together to make that decision? All we saw was everyone thinking about voting for everyone else. It never happened. It was Kurror against Ulong, one last time, and Ulong lost again.

Looking back over this season, we started with 20 people. We lost two people at the very first show who never made it to a tribe. Each tribe has 9 people on it. We lost Willard when they decided to make each tribe lose one person in one show. We lost Janu when she quit on her own last week. We lost Coby when he was actually voted out by the tribe. Every other peson voted off the island was an Ulong tribe member. There are now 9 of them. Coby and Willard are the only 2 to be voted off the island by Korror.

I’m going to miss Steph. She was a player. She was strong. Not as smart as I had hoped, but I was rooting for her. Caryn will be next week because, I mean, who likes Caryn? Tom needs to go as soon as he possibly can and I think he’ll go next. I bet they will regret not voting him off tonight. I hate the girls. It’s like being in High School again. But the boyfriend/girlfriend combo could make it to the end like Rob and Amber did. I can’t believe that no one has targeted Gregg yet. Ian is still under the radar with Gregg.

Will Tom make it more than two more episodes? How long will the blonds last? Will Caryn go next? Will Ian win it all?

Please leave a comment.

First Email: Steph is GONE!

Fbrunner tells me this:

the whole thing was debating where the aliances stood… looked to be as if a girl aliance might form before the end of the episode.
each got five hundred dollars in twenty us currancy bills to auction things to be revealed after bids were made… items included food and last was letters from home
challenge was a toss across board made of tiles…each person had five tiles of their color in which they took turns throwing at the tiles to break their own…if they broke another persons tile, it counted for that person…first person to get all tiles broken and win immunity was ian

cast off was steph

Constantine goes home!

April 27th, 2005

OK, OK. I know this is Survivor.com, but I’m a huge American Idol fan also. I can not believe that Contantine just got sent home. He was the most fun to watch. I thought he was going to make it to the top. I can’t believe that Scotty, as much as I love him, wasn’t even in the bottom three tonight. Something’s going on. This just ain’t right.

Leave me a comment. Do you watch American Idol too?

How about The Apprentice? I hate the The Donald. He’s just a media whore if there ever was one. The guy has no taste whatsoever. He and Elvis would have gotten along. I love the show though. It was great to see Chris get voted off. He got arrested in a bar a few weeks ago in real life. I bet they end up with the white, Yuppie male again, just like the last two times.

Leave me a comment. Do you watch The Apprentice too?

We bid Janu, Adieu!
or
Janu hold your breath underwater?
or
I can irritate everyone, Janu?

April 22nd, 2005

Janu is a cry baby and has been for a while. She’s been laying in the hammock while everyone else is living life. She starts this one out by complaining to everyone. No one likes her, just like no one liked Coby, because they had attitudes. You can’t piss off the entire tribe and expect to be on the tribe for long.

The first reward challenge divided up the tribe randomly, into 4 person teams. The producers had a challenge left over from when there were still two teams. They each had to drag peices of scaffolding out into the water to build a tower, climb up it and grab a flag, then race back to the beach. Janu, Caryn, Gregg, and Tom were the team that won. They were taken off to a Puluan celebration and feast. (Wait? Tom was on the winning team? I’m shocked!)

While they were eatting, Janu got sick and went outside to throw up. Always good TV. This girl has no meat on her bones, so she is probably used to eatting and throwing up… They took a bunch of food back to everyone else where Janu and Caryn both proceed to eat a little bit more! “Here’s a gift that you desperately want, but wait, I’m taking a little bit back for myself”. How gracious. Things are not looking good for Janu at this point.

The immunity challenge was to go under this frame set up in the water with a grate across the top. The water was deep enough that they had to hang on with their hands to keep their heads above water. They could duck down and swim out from under it at any time. The tide was coming in and the water was getting higher. First person to bail had to stay the night on an island by themselves. Last one to bail got immunity.

Janu, with all of her body fat to keep her warm, started to shiver after 6 minutes and bailed. She wanted to be by herself for the night anyway. She was fed up with the tribe. The tide came in and after almost an hour, it was down to Ian and Tom. Tom, used his hands to make a little funnel shape so he could breath, while Ian bailed out. Tom wins immunity! Again! after wining the first challenge! And every other one he’s ever been in! Series gets predictable!

After the challenge, Janu is boated off to her island, which was really small. It was her all alone, by herself, oh, except for that camera man again. It must have been a drag to be that guy. Couldn’t help her make fire, but had to stay there with her. Could you imagine if they really left her alone, then went back to get her in the morning and she was gone! That’d be good TV.

She makes fire after two and a half hours and does a little dance. She’s SOOooo happy to be away from those backstabbing phoneys who are all against her. This is the first time she’s really happy. When she goes back to the tribe, they are all amazed at how happy she is, whcih insults them all the more.

At this point, you know they are going to vote off Janu, but talk around the camp is that they will vote off Steph, the “Strongest woman”. Everyone is talking and agreeing that it will definately be Steph, purely on strategic grounds. This makes total sense, to vote off the strong first. Steph is talking to people too, but no one lies to her very well and she totally picks up on the fact that it’s going to be her. Ah, well. We’re stuck with crybaby Janu for another week.

Or are we? Tribal Council seemed to go on and on this week. Janu breaks down and says she wants to be voted off, she hates it here and she doesn’t care any more. Steph breaks down because she really wants it bad, but she’s getting voted off because she’s “strong” and a threat. Crying women is, again, good TV. So, everyone talks about it and talks about it some more. It gets down to “Janu, if you don’t want to be here, then don’t be.” Steph cries some more. We’re all in suspense. Waiting. More talking. Going to bathroom and getting something to drink. Coming back to see Janu pick up her torch and quitting the game on her own. There is no vote. Steph is safe for another week.

This is all very dramatic, but it blows the boys plans. Steph is still here. The threat remains. It also pissed off Steph, so in previews of next weeks show, you see her say “You want to think I’m a threat? I’ll show you how threatening I am”. She’s trying to get the women to gang up on Tom.

We’ll see if she can pull it off. She’s done some stupid things in the past and this would be a good move, if she can pull the women together. I hate most of them though, except for Steph. Everyone, no matter what side they are on, would be stupid to not vote off Tom if he ever loses an immunity challenge. As soon as he loses, everyone should gang up on him and beat him senseless. I still think Ian will win. He’s under the radar, a nice guy, pretty good at challenges. He’s still my bet. If Steph can get her gang together, she’ll be a threat to win it all too, though.

What do you think? Who will go next? Will Steph get an alliance together against the men? Will Tom EVER lose a challenge?

First Email of the Night - Janu Quits!

April 21st, 2005

Fbrunner6 comes through for us again! Thanks! Here’s what they said…

I missed the beginning….
immunity challenge was a monkey bar structure that they all put there heads under in the water..it started out above the water and slowly got lowered.. once u came out from under bars, u lost…first one to lose gets stranded to a deserted island…
janu sucks at water challenges and quits b4 the bars even hit the water…. tom uses his smarts and makes a funnel with his hands for a breathing tube after the water had rose above bars…
he wins immunity
everyone griping about janu but probably was gonna vote steph off
janu tried to use a pitty play at tribal councel saying she would be fine if she were to be the one voted off
i think ian was gonna vote for steph but made a comment that was taken differently
he said…if she wanted to leave she wouldve laid down her torch
and basically when its taken differently.. she was playing the team to stay and when she felt guilty over stephs comments about how she shouldve never been there then… she put her torch¬®?úout and left the game

Coby Voted Off!
Do You Long For Ulong?

April 15th, 2005

Stephanie was so alone (with all those cameramen) and she had a hard night being without Bobby Jon. She was probably safer without him because he was so stupid, but that’s last week’s story.

Next day, she get’s tree mail, telling her that she is to joing the other tribe. It wasn’t so much a merge as a hostile take over. They didn’t change the name of the tribe like they normally do, they just added her to Korror. The tree mail had a package that said not to open, but give it to Korror, and it contained her new buff. It was funny that everyone smelled the new buff. I guess it was clean and they weren’t used to clean clothes.

I was surprised the Stephanie almost cried when she got the tree mail because she was SO happy. She was more emotional about that than anything else so far. It mut have been really hard on her emotionally to be with those losers on Ulong…

She is welcomed into the Korror tribe. Everyone had a party to bring her into the tribe. Two locals come to teach them how to fish and they catch a bunch of fish, more than ever. Coby gets pissy about being excluded from the fish lessons. Oh, and here’s a couple bottle’s of Rum. Wahoo! They all proceed to eat, drink, and be merry. Tom gets totally, falling down drunk. He seriously falls down on his way back to his bed. It was bad. OK, it was funny too. (Moron!)

Coby tells Steph all of the alliances that everyone has and all of the secrets of the tribe. I admit that he has been really pissy with everyone. He’s been working hard while a lot of the others have been sitting around, especially Janu. He’s got a real attitude. “Screw ‘em all”. He wants to go home. Anyway, Steph turns around and tells the girls everything that Coby just told her and they all laugh about it, except that it’s all true and the girls have to hide the part about them wanting her gone. “Ha Ha Ha. We’re all friends! (but we’re voting you off)”. Steph is strong, but some of that Ulong stupidity has rubbed off on her. She’s not going to make it to the end, pulling stupid stunts like that.

For the immunity challenge, they brought out the same stands they’ve had on the last 8 Survivors where everyone gets to stand on them out in the water until there’s one left standing. How boring. Almost as bad as watching the hand on the pole deal. Anyway, Jeff brings out donuts and two jump off. Then, (hours later) he brings out chocolate chip cookies. All but three jump off to get them. It’s down to Tom, Steph, and the other girl (I can never remember her name. Caryn?) The last temptation is PIZZA! oohhhh. Everyone but Tom jumps. Tom wins immunity, like he really needs it.

In the tribal council, where Steph is an old hand and it’s new for everyone else, Janu think’s it’s her, and it should be, but Steph thinks it’s her, which it could be, but Coby thinks it’s him, which it would be. Janu votes for Steph. Coby votes for Janu and everyone else votes for Coby. He takes it as a compliment, that he was a threat.

I was sorry to see him go. I like him. He’s got personality. He was a hard worker. He was a player. I guess pouting doesn’t win you many friends. Too bad he got the attitude. Ah, well.

Steph didn’t do as well this week. I really think she’s going to stumble. She didn’t think things through like she needed to. She needs friends who can help her, which she can have if she plays it right. She might not play it right. She didn’t learn much from playing on Ulong for so long. (I like saying “Ulong”.) I bet she’s gone within 3 weeks.

The games steps up a notch now. One tribe. Alliances will get tested. The lazy and the stupid will be found out and voted off. Will the almghty Tom make it to the final four? Will another alliance pick him off because of his strength? I’m betting that Ian wins it all at this point. Janu will go next week. The biggest liar has won the last two and the nicest guy won the one before that. Who is the biggest liar or the nicest guy? No one can lie and Ian is the nicest guy. He’ll win.

What do you think? Leave a comment.

First Email of the Night - Merge!
Coby Gone!

April 14th, 2005

I received this from Fbrunner:

Steph was really taking it hard being alone on the island till she recieved her tree mail… the letter stated she could go to koror and it had a map to get there…along with a container that had a note saying dont open,,give to Koror…..the container end up containing¬®?úa note on the merger and i think it also had the new buffs but im not certain.

2 guides came to koror to teach them how to get bait and fish….coby volunteered to stay and work on getting bait in the water while tom was to go out and learn to fish with someone. coby wanted ian to stay with him and tom spoke up becuz he didnt feel ian should stay on shore and not learn how to fish with the guides after all he had been doing to retrieve food for koror. coby got sassy and walked away pissed.

everyone started pulling steph aside after coby had spoke up in front of everyone and pulled her aside to tell her about aliances. steph went straight back afterwards and told katie and jen about what he said. then he continued to make remarks about steph being the target in front of everyone and he managed to piss the whole tribe off.
Immunity challenge consisted of standing on poles in the water..last one standing earns imunity
everyone kept diving it at points for food that was offered…such as donuts
tom, steph, caryn were last to stay and tom won immunity cuz they jumped in the water for pizza
castoff: coby of course… he voted for someone else and janu voted for steph..everyone else voted for coby

Steph All Alone! Will She Survive?

Yeah, she’s alone and scared, but it can’t be that bad. Don’t mind those 5 cameramen taking all of the footage from 10 feet away. They aren’t really there. When you see a picture of her in the dark all alone, remember who took the picture. It’s not like she’s REALLY all alone. It’s good TV though.

I can only assume that they HAVE to merge tonight. There is no way that they can do an immunity challenge with both teams and have Steph lose it. I don’t think. Maybe they can. They seem to change the rules whenever they feel like it any way. Who knows this show any more?

So, a reminder, once again, that anyone on the East coast or anyone not in the Pacific Standard Time zone anyway, to send me an email telling me what happens. I’ll post it here before the the show starts so that people on the West Coast will know what happens before the show. We’ll put one over on Mark Burnett! OK, not that big of a deal, but it makes me feel powerful, you know? I’ll take anything I can get. I feel like such a slave to the show now. Yes, we really want to know.

Send me email at episode9@survivor.com.

Eveyone on the West coast thanks you!

And if they do merge, who do you think needs to get voted off next? Let’s turn our attention to the Korro tribe. They need to start going away now. Who bugs you the most? Those lazy women? The bossy men? Leave a comment.

Bobby Jon is Gon!

April 7th, 2005

Wow. It was a little surprising to night. I guess looking back at it, it was the only way it could have worked out, but there was some excitement tonight.

This was the gross food week, eating these unborn ducks inside eggs. I couldn’t watch. It was gross. Bobby Job lost because he stuffed all 5 in his mouth at one time and couldn’t swallow. Tom, the Beastmaster, just ate them one at a time, bam, bam, bam, and won.

Korror won again. It’s embarrassing. They got soap and shampoo stuff as well as a 55 gallon drum of clean water. Tom pissed off the girls by deciding that they should save it and not use it for showers. Everyone was bummed about that. Why not use the soap to wash in the ocean? Shampoo still works in salt water. What was the big deal?

Ian, Tom and one of the girls (forgot which), entered into an alliance with Stephanie the first couple days on the island, before the tribes were formed. They are planning on using Stephanie as a stealth partner when they merge, if she’s still around. That could make it interesting later on.

The second challenge was swimming, then doing a puzzle. Of course, Ulong did well in the swimming part, but completely choked on the puzzle. Keep Bobby Jon away from using his head and he’ll be fine. I used to want to mock him, but now I feel sorry for him. Poor guy.

Ulong loses another immunity challenge. This is every, single one of them. Korror has never lost a challenge and Ulong has never won one. Time to turn the channel, this race is over.

Steph was upset and afraid of both losing and winning the challenge. She doesn’t want to leave the game, but she doesn’t want to be alone in camp and have to do all of the work and fire and food add all of that stuff. (Don’t look at all those camera men taking capturing you on video while you starve to death.)

During the tribal council, Steph complains that BJ is better than she is at building fires and getting food. To decide who goes home, since there are only two of them, there is another challenge. They have to, of course, build a fire. First one to light their torch, wins. Their torches are hung over the top of an area that they have to build a fire in. They have matches, husk, and kindling. It has to burn up maybe a foot or two.

Both are pretty well equal in speed, but Stephanie blows on the fire and it burns higher and lights first. Steph wins. She actually thought about it and used her head. BJ just lit it and watched it burn.

The tribe HAS NOT spoken, but BJ is going home. It was like shooting a horse who broke his leg to put it out of his misery. See ya, Bobby Jon. It was fun making fun of you, until it got sad.

I bet Steph wins the whole thing. What do you think?

Tonight’s First Email

Food challenge: Balute (half grown duckling…about 20days or so
4 rounds, each round increases by one balute
1pt for each balute u eat.. no time limit
Tom vs steph each get pt
BJ vs Ian each get two pts
they get all the points and go to tie breaker.. first person to eat five balute
tov vs ian
Ian sucks!!! he is so stupid he shoved all five in his mouth at once and tried to hold them in.. he couldnt even chew cuz there was so much

of course koror wins … 55 gal fresh water tank with shower spout and basket of toiletries

Tom wants to use fresh water for just cantines and Jen boohoos cuz she wants a clean shower

Tom and Ian talk about having Steph in an aliance if she is the one to merge

Immunity challenge: Swim to plantoons and under water to retrieve a bag of puzzle pieces
bring it back across plantoon and balance beams then next person swims for another bag

get all four bags back and put together… it forms a word puzzle and teams must find hidden words
where the words intersect …. keep track of letters and unscramble to find phrase

phrase ends up being Victory at Sea

Ulong finally has a lead and sucks at puzzles….koror wins again

Steph and BJ must compete in immunity challenge to determine cast off
they head back to camp and Steph breaks down
she is scared that if she wins, she will face coming back to camp alone and she isnt nearly as good as bj at making fires and catching food.

they go to tribal councel and guess what the challenge is….. first one to make fire high enough to light their torch

Steph uses her brain, unlike Bj, and blows to make it go high
Castoff: BJ

The twist:

NONE
she goes back to camp alone

What’s next? Who cares?

April 6th, 2005

So Uong is down to two people, a guy and a girl, and neither is all that bright. This episode is called “Neandrethal Man” because Bobby Jon blows his nose without wiping. Who among us hasn’t done that? Come on. OK, all you females probably haven’t, but guys are just gross by nature. It’s what we do. Is this unexpected?

I’m surprised there’s no romance happening, except for the fact that Bobby Jon seems to like the guys better than he does Stephanie. That’s all I’m saying. Maybe he’s intimidated by people who are smarter than him, but if that’s true he’s got a long, sad life ahead of him… unless he stays in Alabama. That’s all I’m saying, OK?

Do you think they wil mercifully merge the tribes this week? Please, Jeff, Please, merge the tribes. We need to see some of the people on Korror go away now. Of course, Bobby Jon could go and I’d be happy. They have to do something to spice it up now. It’s been really bad the last couple weeks. Boring and predictable. I’ve even gotten less page hits. My readers have lost interest even. So, come on, stir it up!

What do you think will happen Thursday night? Will they merge? Who will get booted off? Leave a comment.
