Update: Our local Survivor was out-smarted and didn't survive. After winning immunity, the 22-year-old Erik Reichenbach from Hell, Michigan handed over his guaranteed spot in the final four to a fellow contestant, at a promise that him doing so would bring him votes in the end for the one-million-dollar prize. The 4 ladies tricked him and Erik became the 13th person voted off of Survivor with only three days left on the island.
The season finale airs this Sunday at 8pm.
Original story: This Sunday, millions will tune in to watch the finale of Survivor, and one of Michigan's own is a finalist on the show. He works at a Livingston County ice cream shop which has been all abuzz about his success. It's typically a cold day in Hell inside Screams Ice Cream Shop, but a wave of excitement has the Hell, Michigan parlor heating up for local Survivor star Erik Reichenbach.
Pat McDonald, Screams Ice Cream Manager: "He's done a wonderful job, and I'm sure all of Michigan is so proud and excited for him."
Manager Pat McDonald says customers who come to Screams for ice cream are all screams for Erik.
Pat McDonald: "Girls will come in and go, where's Erik, when will he be here?"
She says people outside Michigan call in for the scoop too.
Pat McDonald: "People calling from out of state to see if a Survivor really worked there."
When Pat's not answering fans on the phone, she's usually whipping a special dish in Erik's honor, featuring lots of things you'll find in an episode of Survivor: worms, bugs and nuts.
Pat McDonald: "It's called the Survivor Sundae."
It's clear that Erik has left an impression on Hell, but he's also made T-shirts to show the impression hell has had on him.
Pat McDonald: "They've drawn a lot of attention. People are really starting to buy them. It's definitely been good for business, and I think in the future, it's going to be even better, especially if he wins."
Pat says you have come early if you want a Survivor Sundae on Survivor Sunday.
Pat McDonald: "We're staying home to watch. We want to hear exactly what's happening and we'll all party afterwards."
And she's sure if Erik can survive Hell, he can survive Survivor.
