LOUISVILLE, Ky. - A Louisville woman will try to “outwit, outplay and outlast” 15 other castaways on the 18th season of “Survivor.”

Sandy Burgin traveled to several audition sites and spent several nights outside to be the first through the doors, hoping to get the attention of the casting directors.

Her family said competing on the hit CBS reality show fulfills a longtime dream for Burgin.

Burgin, 53, is the oldest competitor on “Survivor: Tocantins.” The professional school bus driver described herself as a “fearless woman” in her biography for the show.

Burgin’s family said they think she has what it takes to become the next Survivor and bring home the million-dollar prize.

“She’s like the fisherman. You know, uses all this pretty lure to get you in the boat, but she’s going to cut your head off so the other Survivors just need to watch out,” said Burgin’s daughter Laura Blair.

The producers didn’t see that trait in Burgin. At first, they rejected her from the show, but her husband said she repeatedly called them until she was finally chosen as a contestant.

“She’s smart. She’s really smart and she’ll figure people out and we’ve watched it enough that she knows the ins and outs of ‘Survivor’ so she’ll do really well,” Burgin’s best friend Donna Kranaur said.
