Jeff Probst blogs ‘Survivor: Gabon’ finale! | PopWatch Blog | EW.com by Jeff Probst

Preface: It’s late. I’m beat. I mean wiped out. I’m sitting on my couch banging this out, so forgive me if it’s not the most entertaining blog of the season.

Bob wins!! I’m happy. I really think he deserved it. I love that he’s 57 and our oldest winner — we need more people over 50 playing this game. I was a bit annoyed with Bob about one thing…during the show Bob was so long winded, always ready with another story about this or that. We get to the live reunion show and he’s suddenly the shy girl in the corner with braces and a ponytail, who doesn’t want to be there. Bob, you made it tough, but I’m still happy for you.

If Susie had won I don’t know what I would have said or how I would have justified such a decision by the jury. Yes, Susie did a good job making it far enough to put her in a position to have a shot at the money. But to get three votes and nearly get a fourth vote from Randy really surprised me.

Equally surprising was that Sugar received no votes. Not one jury member thought she was worthy of a vote. I’m guessing there’s a  “bitter Betty” pill going around in that bunch. They’re mad that she had a hand in voting them out, and they’re gonna show her by not rewarding her hard work. There is no doubt about it, Sugar played a pretty damn good game.

If this were a “fair” game, which it often is not – Sugar would have received a few votes and Susie would have none. To future Survivor contestants. If you make it to the jury, try to just let the anger and envy go and see the big picture. You got your ass kicked – no way around it – now quit being a baby and reward the person who kicked your ass by giving them your vote.

You hit the nail on the head Jeff. Maybe the jury idea needs some work when they are so bitter and mean. Being on the jury shouldn’t be just about them but focused on the game itself. If they listened to themselves when they would discuss their plans with the camera…they wouldn’t have a leg to stand on to complain about another’s game plan. This jury seemed the worse.

Sugar played a great game until the end when it appeared she truly felt either Bob or Matty should win and she gave chance the final straw. I think if Susie won I might have stopped watching . Remind them the end should justify the means. Take some of the power from the referee’s…maybe you should have a vote!

I agree. It was a weak showing by the jury. I think Sugar played one of the better games I’ve seen by a person who didn’t win. For her to get no votes was crazy. I will admit; however, that she didn’t help herself in the final tribal council with the way she answered some of those questions. Probably wouldn’t have mattered anyway. The jury was too jaded.

I thought Randy’s nastiness was actually kind of funny. Not Corrine though. She was always trying too hard to sell herself as “mean.”
I think it was obvious that she had seen “nasty” players from the past like Jerri Manthey, Boston Rob and Johnny Fairplay get other tv/opportunities for their notoriety — and was pushing for the same thing.
She’s an attractive girl. She might get some of what she’s looking for, but she just really wasn’t all that interesting. The fact that the show cut out so many of her scenes is proof of that. Whenever she spoke to the camera it always felt forced and contrived to me. She was just trying too hard.
She even complained in the finale that she wasn’t portrayed as negatively as Randy. If that isn’t a dead give-away…?:)
She was swinging for the fence, all right, when she took that shot at Sugar’s dead father. I’m sorry but that felt desperate — and was disgraceful to use something like that just so you can make one last bad impression.

Jeff you are right again! They may have been in Eden but their behavoir is that of Kane and Able. Poor Charlie all he wants is for everyone to get along. Learn kindness and forgivness people, after all it is a game!

Way to go Jeff… the only thing that I would add is that you were too diplomatic with the this “Jury of Losers”. I was even shocked that Marcus stood up and told the final 3 what they should do with their money. If we could vote on a winner for the Jury… Charlie would get 100% of the votes.
At first Randy and Corrine didn’t bother me much but after their final displays it is obvious they both need to get Real Mental & Personality help or just crawl back under the rocks they came out from. PATHETIC displays of human behavior! I actually feel sorry for any dog that Randy ends up with. Of course, Corrine will probably die as an old maid if the men she meets have at least the inteligence of a slug.
Watching the questions by the Jury and how they voted really sickened me to the “Jury of your Peers” concept. Their poor whining loser attitudes would be expected from people on the low end of the gene pool! Forget the IQ scores for Marcus and Randy… obviously they don’t need high IQs to act like whining, vindictive & sniveling spoiled children.
Oh, the more I write the more pissed I become regarding the actions of this Jury of Loosers>>. LLLLLL

hey jeff – how about when someone like corrine makes such a despicable comment it doesn’t even get aired…that way you might stop whining mean sprited people from making their unnecessary comments. Isn’t that section of the show for asking questions anyway? When did it become a session for voted out contestants to rage at the people who performed better than they did?
her comments (and any similar ones in future episodes) shouldn’t even be aired. totally unnecessary!

OUTWIT-OUTPLAY-OUTLAST…Sugar nailed it. Maybe it’s time to remove the jury from the equation. There aren’t many people on the planet who can put their emotions aside and give a fair “trial” to a competitor. Perhaps the final vote should go to the fans as in (dare I say it) American Idol or to you, the producers and the directors. When a jury has
two emotionally retarded people (Corrine and Randy) the real winner doesn’t have a chance.
I think that the evil comments such as those expressed by Corrine and Randy should be
seen during the season, however, they shouldn’t be given ANY camera time at the finale. The same way you treat a two year old having a tantrum, ignore them. The spotlight at the end should be saved for the players who have best demonstrated the motto of the show…OUTWIT-OUTPLAY-OUTLAST.

Jeff, Did anyone notice the item on Sugar’s neckless she wore while in Cabon? Was there a meaning behind it? It looked like a 45 record adaptor for the record players? It sure stood out the whole time. She really played a great game.
