Review – “Survivor: Gabon” Season 17, Episode 5 – TV Jab by Dena Schaffer

Now, I normally discuss challenges, camp drama and exile island news before I dive into each night’s tribal council outcome, but this week I can’t resist jumping ahead to the good part.

The Lame Tribe, Fang

The Lame Tribe, Fang

Tonight, Fang has once again proven their record of idiocracy. When faced with the choice of voting out Sugar, whom they now realize has the immunity idol mind you, they instead voted out G.C. because he requested to go home. I mean really, are you kidding me? Now, I’m not saying that G.C. shouldn’t have his flame extinguished in the near future, but let’s face it, he wasn’t exactly a threat. Sugar on the other hand… With immunity on your side, even the weakest are threats.

Now, back to the challenges…

After starting off this week’s episode with some excellent footage of an Elephant who wondered just feet away from the cast members, the tribes got back to business and headed out for their first challenge. A challenge that I would like to fondly refer to as monkey in the middle with a bat. It was a tight game, one of the few these days, but unfortunately Fang still managed to lose to the ever-mighty Kota and Sugar was sent to Exile Island. Which means, Fang – No fruit for you!

Practically missing the next challenge after G.C. went AWOL in a canoe, the tribes once again joined in a face off. This one was more reminiscent of bowling with blind blocking. For possibly the first time ever, Ace and Sugar did not make a good team (hmm… maybe it’s because she’s never around.) On the other hand Randy and Dan kicked some major butt communicating to each other and thus winning the second challenge for their team.

So now to my big prediction for the future of Survivor. Crystal’s on her way out. I still think there’s a few weaklings who must/will leave before her (cough Kelly cough), but I really don’t see Crystal making it to the end. I honestly think that the only reason she hasn’t been seen as a potential throw away yet is because of two things: a) She’s obvious a beast of a woman and b) She’s very confident in the fact that she’s a beast of a woman. If you ask my opinion though, for an Olympic Athlete, she’s hardly a competitor in this game.
